December 2025 Trip Booked!

Thank goodness I finalized my Dec. 2025 Cancun trip, I always get a bit restless when there’s no travel plans on my calendar.

And as is so common for Libra individuals, I have completely changed my mind about my plans.  (Flexibility is a boon for a lot of things but morphing plans can be a bummer at times when projects are involved…what I end up with is often very different from my initial planning!).

So here’s the deal–the trip is for Dec. 2-10 but I have gotten into the habit of staying at multiple resorts to make the most of my vacay dates, plus I tend to get bored so I always like new surroundings.  I found a fantastic deal (way under budget for this trip) for Riu Latino which is an adults-only resort located in the Costa Mujeres area north of downtown Cancun.  For those readers who follow my resort stays, I am a Riu fan–a great bargain for fun vacations.  This property is the first Riu adults-only resort to have its own water park; it’s also supposed to have a fun silent disco so I’m definitely going to check that out.  Plus, Riu Latino guests are allowed to go to the Riu theme parties over at Riu Dunamar so that will either be the neon or the white party.  I stayed at the Dunamar many years ago when it first opened so it will be good to see if there are any changes to that property.

Next resort is kind of a surprise, even to me.  I managed to get a good deal for an upgraded room at Krystal Grand Cancun staying in an Altitude Suite Oceanfront.  I figured with the $ I saved with the Riu booking that I could afford a slightly higher priced resort and this suite looks divine. This property is located in Cancun’s Hotel Zone on an eastern-facing beach by Punta Cancun which means turquoise waters, expansive ocean views from my balcony, and a fantastic swimmable beach area.  With its location so close to Punta Cancun and the concrete jetty there are calmer waters and less rip currents.  Just what the Dr. ordered.

Just a note, make sure to clear your computer cookies between travel searches if you are going to be returning to the same resorts in order to book.  I forgot to do so and pricing went up over $400 for the same dates I had put in before for the same resort.  You will be saving yourself some $.

Below is a short video of the resort’s beach area done by Manuela Istrate Xe Ma (the taller rounder buildings behind belong to Krystal Grand Cancun; Altitude rooms are in a separate tower.  Ocean looks beautiful, I can’t wait.

If anyone is in the area or staying at this resort come say hi!  I have a feeling I will be spending quite a bit of time on the beach here…

Lomas Hospitality Now Offers Their “More Inclusive” Program For Guests

The number of all-inclusive resorts in Cancun and the Riviera Maya is getting larger every year with the addition of 4-6 new properties all vying for part of the very popular all-inclusive market of vacationers.  As a result, resort brands are having to come up with ways to entice such vacationers; one such way is the expansion of what you get for your all-inclusive stay.

Hotels Xcaret has had enormous success with their All-Fun Inclusive concept where airport transportation, local transportation and admission to select parks and select excursions are now part of your stay without spending any extra money.  I was able to visit famous Chichén Itzá when staying at Hotel Xcaret Mexico with their All-Fun Inclusive concept and didn’t have to spend an extra dime outside of tipping guides and the tour bus driver.  That transfers to potentially huge savings for families and individuals alike who want to maximize their vacation dollars.

Lomas Hospitality has thrown their all-inclusive hats in this ring, so to speak, by introducing their More Inclusive concept to guests staying at the following resorts:

  • El Dorado Casitas Royale
  • El Dorado Maroma
  • El Dorado Royale
  • El Dorado Seaside Palms
  • El Dorado Seaside Suites
  • Generations Riviera Maya
  • Hidden Beach Au Naturel
  • Palafitos Overwater Bungalows

Here’s what’s included in the More Inclusive package deal:

  • free round trip airport transportation
  • 3 hr. catamaran and reef snorkel excursion (includes alcohol and snacks)
  • waver runner guided tour at Maroma Beach area
  • access to Maroma Beach Club–this is located north of the Palafitos Overwater Bungalows.  This includes lounger use, brunch, access to kayaks and paddleboards, swimming at famous Maroma Beach.
  • access to Aqua Nick water park at the Nickelodeon resort (this property is directly adjacent to Generations Riviera Maya)
  • “Ecoturism Ranch”–this is located by El Dorado Royale where you will interact with rescued animals and swim in a natural spring.  If you’re going to be there you might as well spend a bit extra for the horseback riding experience.
  • “Cenote and Underground Expedition”–you will be visiting Aktun Chen to explore underground caves and swim in a cenote.

Now if all of this sounds like a good deal, better hurry up and book one of the participating resorts listed above to add something extra to your vacation experience!

So who’s going to one of these resorts to have a really great time?  Let me know in the comments below if you plan on going or have already enjoyed the perks of Lomas Hospitality’s More Inclusive program.

Here’s Some Suggestions For Booking A Resort When The Budget Is Tight At The Moment…

Ever been in the position of desperately needing a vacation but the cash flow or the budget is limited when you want to book?  I haven’t been back to Mexico since March 2024 (I chose to do more local trips with my toddler grandson and hold taco pool parties at my home so it’s not like I’ve haven’t had any fun), but I’ve had the “travel itch” like crazy lately.  By the way, if you want some great street taco recipes let me know, I’ve got some good options…

But here’s the issue–not only is Christmas coming up with presents to purchase, but I’m paying off the last of my upcoming March cruise to the southern Caribbean (lovely St. Lucia here I come!).  And here I am right in the middle of Black Friday travel discounts with $ flowing in the wrong direction…what’s a traveler to do??  It’s not like I don’t have the $, but since I run my own business cash flow is always an issue.

Here’s some suggestions to give you some choices about how to book an upcoming vacation without totally destroying a budget or creating more $ flow issues for yourself. I don’t typically recommend using wholesalers to purchase vacations, but in situations like this Booking.com can be extremely helpful with some of their resort choices offering paying for your vacation when you arrive at the resort.  That means no paying a deposit when booking, no paying the total price when booking, it just means you can now look forward to your resort stay without the hassle of seeing the price on your next credit card statement.  Now that certainly doesn’t include all listed resorts, you have to check at the bottom left of the resort choice to see if that option is available.  When you book online you will have to give a credit card number but that is to hold your reservation, not immediately pay for your stay.

If you don’t want to use a wholesaler (and I don’t really blame you, I’ve had a horror story or two using them), then consider that some resorts allow you to always book a room and pay for it when you arrive.  Riu resorts do just that, I’ve never had to purchase a stay in advance with them since I primarily book Riu properties directly  on their website.  I save additional $ because I belong to their free loyalty club (Riu Class); resort loyalty clubs abound because there is such fierce competition right now for business in general and repeat visitors.  So next time you want to book any resort check their website and see if you can get a better deal by using their free loyalty club.

So here’s the scoop on my next vacation…I will be traveling the end of January and have booked Riu Caribe and SLS Playa Mujeres.  At first I was going to book Garza Blanca but could not find any website which allowed me to delay payment; since this is a luxury property that would have been a considerable amount due all at once. Surprisingly I found that the brand new family-friendly luxury property, SLS Playa Mujeres, offered “pay at the resort when you arrive” at Booking.com, so I jumped at the chance.  A new property to cover plus I want to check out as many of the Riu parties held at Riu Caribe as I can since this is the resort host for Riu theme parties in Cancun’s Hotel Zone.  I was sad about not staying at Garza Blanca, but it will have to be at a later date.  Hopefully the SLS property will more than justify my decision.

So there you are, a few ideas about how to look forward to a great vacation without immediate $ shock to your budget and wallet.  What do you think?  What tactics do you use to save money on vacations?

Secrets Tulum Opens New Zamna Beach Club Section…

For those of you familiar with Secrets Tulum, you already know that this resort is not located on the beach.  You have to take a 20 min. shuttle ride from the main part of the resort to reach their beautiful beach club which is now referred to as Zamna Beach Club.

If you follow my blog, you also already know that I stayed at Secrets Tulum Dec. 2023 (if you want to read my resort review, just click here).  Since that time, there have been some significant changes to the beach club area including the opening of an accommodations section featuring 21 additional suites and a small gourmet restaurant called Rosewater just for guests staying in this beach resort section.  When I stayed at the resort the only beachfront accommodation available was the beachfront “house” which features 5 bedrooms, a private butler and chef, and 2 rooftop plunge pools.  Now there are additional options for those who want the beach experience just steps from their suite.

The new suites available include the following (along with their rack rate):

  • Casa Zamna Tropical View ($333.50 p/person p/night)
  • Casa Zamna Oceanfront ($426.50 p/person p/night)
  • Casa Zamna Oceanfront Jr. Suite ($666.50 p/person p/night)
  • Casa Zamna Oceanfront Master Suite ($1,200 p/person p/night)
  • Casa Zamna Oceanfront Presidential Suite ($1,467 p/person p/night)

Villa Zamna, the private beach house, is listed at $2,267 p/person p/night).

I received an email from Hyatt offering Grand Opening special rates of up to half off in this resort section if booked by Aug. 1 with a stay completed by Dec. 2026.  Just go to this resort’s web page and sign up to receive emails, or you can access this offer by clicking here.

Below is a video done by Life and Travel which highlights the exterior area of this new beachfront oasis.  Curiously, when I stayed at this resort and visited the beach club there were no signs of construction, so I had no idea this section even existed.  It looks quite nice and I’m glad there are now rooms which can fit a beach lover’s dream–a luxury room just steps from the beach along with food, drink, and pool options.  Beachfront rooms are part of the Preferred Club upgrade, and guests staying in the beachfront section have full access to the main resort.

So, who wants to stay in one of these new beachfront suites?

Interested In Saving Money On Your Vacation?

I found a video done by popular YouTube creator, “Coolist” (aka James Williams) regarding tips on saving money when booking your vacation (and who doesn’t want to do that…).  Nice to hear that I’m already doing some of his suggestions, interesting to hear about the ones I am not.

Have a look at the video below…how does the way you book your vacation differ from what Mr. Williams is suggesting?  In addition to his comments, I would also add the following in how to save $ when booking your precious vacation time.  Here’s what I’ve found to be helpful as well:

  • Sign up to receive emails from resort’s you are interested in visiting.  That way you can be one of the first to read about flash sales, surprise sales, and deeply discounted stays at resorts you’d love to visit.
  • Sign up to be a member of the resort’s “loyalty club” (if they have one).  They are free to join, and you can get incredible additional discounts when booking your stay on resort’s websites as a “loyalty club” member.  Most loyalty clubs also offer other benefits–the more you stay at the company’s resorts the more points you accrue and the more benefits you receive (if you belong to World of Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, etc. you already know the benefits of this additional way to save on your stays).
  • Booking your vacation as a “loyalty club” member will also get you a better room location.  Trust me on this one, I’ve been visiting all-inclusive resorts for over 30 years and have booked my vacations all kinds of different ways and have found that booking directly on a resort’s website has gotten me some awesome room locations as well as surprise room upgrades.
  • Here’s a tip for when you are trying to find the best deal on a resort–clear your computer cookies after each resort view and pricing.  If you keep going back later to re-price or just view the same resort, your cookies have identified you as being interested in that property and may not show you the best deal you found when you first checked out the resort.  Resorts like to show their best deal at the time it is up on your screen, but if they think you are likely to book they may up the price a bit just because they think you are going to book them anyway.  I’m sure there is a technical term for this, but I’m think you know the point I am trying to make.  An example would be my checking on a price for a swim-up at Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya, clearing my cookies and going back a day later to find that the same resort and same room category was $250 cheaper when the resort hadn’t added an additional “sale” offer.  I had to book it by the way, it was a steal.
  • I agree with Mr. Williams on booking everything separately, although my reasoning is different.  I always worry about flight snafus since I’ve encountered many over my years of travel.  Booking with a wholesaler just because I got a better deal by booking everything together doesn’t mean it’s smooth sailing if your flight(s) get cancelled. Booking directly with airlines gives me more control over potentially troubling situations rather than stay on hold with a wholesaler while they make some attempt to fix my problem.  Mr. Williams suggests this practice of booking everything separately is primarily due to the fact that best pricing is different depending on the best and cheapest time to book a flight vs. booking a resort.
  • If I’m thinking of traveling and I know my dates of flying in and out of an airport, I always first go to Kayak and see if I like flight times/connection times between flights, and if I find one I am interested in I will ask Kayak to let me know when prices drop. I typically then visit the airline’s website and see how fares are comparable to what Kayak has listed. If you are traveling last minute this will obviously not work.

Do you have any tried and true ways to save money when booking your vacation?  Let us all know!  In the meantime, here’s Mr. Williams’ video and his thoughts on the matter.

Check Out This Deal For Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya…

If anyone is interested in booking the awesome adults-only resort known as Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya, check out the deal I just saw on the Cheap Caribbean wholesaler website.  A full week for two in an entry level room in summer for only $3,455 total price.  I consider that a deal for this particular property.

Booking Date Availability Now Listed For New Rooms At Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal

Hey there, sorry for the lapse in posting but I was busy getting my music groove on in Vegas for a lengthy weekend.  Loved Sammy Hagar and the Circle performance but HATED the 116° F temp…I love playing in Vegas but hate being literally baked there, lol.
