Learn About the Unique Spa at Planet Hollywood Cancun…

I have to start out this post with a self-disclosure–I typically don’t get any type of beauty or spa treatments when I go on vacation, and that includes stays at all-inclusive resorts.  However, I have been curious about what the big draw is to certain resort spas and why guests are more than willing to pay several hundred dollars in an hour or two…I have gone so far as to visit the hydrotherapy circuit at TRS Coral (it was free with my booking), and I did do a video shoot of the unique looking spa at Dreams Natura to address my curiosity, but I am not the first one to sign up for spa treatments when I get to a resort.

I was curious about the PH Spa and Beauty Bar at this resort since I had read that not only were music and color being used as part of the healing and cleansing process, but that new holistic treatments were added to their spa options.  So I decided to request a private tour in order to learn more about what the resort had to offer those who might be interested in booking treatments, or even considering hydrotherapy access.

I lucked out in being able to have my tour led by the spa manager, Karina Enzaldo.  She was very friendly yet professional and answered all my questions as well as led me on a very detailed tour of the entire spa.  (If you have a question or concern about any spa treatments you have obtained here, don’t hesitate to ask for her, she will be more than happy to make sure you are informed about and satisfied with your spa services).

Here’s just some of what I learned about what guests can expect or obtain from visiting the PH Spa and Beauty Bar:

  • your wristband with its digital room key is used to open and close your private locker–no more having to mentally retrieve your code when your brain waves are on a different “channel” following your spa treatments.
  • if you decide to do the hydrotherapy circuit prior to any treatments (or just the hydrotherapy circuit alone), there will be designated spa staff that will lead you through each step.  No guessing what to do or where to go next.
  • the spa, in addition to shower soap, will provide guests with exfoliation “salts” when taking first showers (the spa highly recommends that showers be taken prior to experiencing the hydrotherapy circuit or receiving treatments).
  • I’ve never seen so many different types of showers.  There are showers in the separate men’s and women’s dressing rooms, then there are more showers in the hydrotherapy circuit area including a chromotherapy shower using different lights to treat various physical symptoms and to aid the adjustment of one’s “body vibrations”.  There are other showers from which you can choose including a steam shower or an actual bucket shower.  No one can claim you will not be clean after visiting this spa.
  • The hydrotherapy circuit area also includes a steam room, sauna room, and Himalayan pink salt room.  The salt walls claim to clear your airways, cleanse your skin, and help fight stress.  I would highly recommend the salt room–I tried the hydrotherapy circuit at TRS Coral including the salt room which looks the same as the one here and I found my skin to be softer with tighter pores after this “treatment”.   Check it out and decide for yourself.
  • There is a hot water Jacuzzi and a cold water plunge pool within the hydrotherapy circuit area.
  • There is a main pool within the hydrotherapy circuit area with jetted sections ideal for targeting specific body areas–lower back, neck etc.; ask the staff if you’re not sure which sections address your needs.
  • Guests can receive 30 or 60 min. sound therapy treatments on the “wave beds” (the name reflects the shape of the lounger).  I’d actually like to try that one.
  • There are several different types of treatment rooms depending on what you’ve booked.  There are the traditional rooms with either one or two large massage tables, the Ayurveda treatment rooms, and the newer holistic treatment room with the quartz sand beds which store body heat and directly conform to your exact body shape.  Ayurveda spa treatments typically involve some traditional massage techniques with oils specifically chosen based on one’s “dosha” or energy patterns–Ayurveda treatments also may include massage techniques such as tapping, kneading, or squeezing while additional materials or objects may be used to deliver the massage.
  • The newer holistic treatment room is larger than the typical treatment room and includes two quartz sand beds and a Japanese soaking tub.  The newer treatments are based on Egyptian healing methods and properties (vs. the India based Ayurveda treatments).  Sand can be heated, the bed adjusted based on the area the masseuse wants to work on, and additional materials or objects may be used to deliver the massage as well.  These holistic treatments are also supposed to aid in the destruction of emotional blockages which may have led to physical symptoms such as pain in certain body areas.
  • And all of that isn’t even mentioning the full service beauty and nail salon which is located within the spa, nor the several bridal suites where wedding parties can get dressed and receive make-up for the big day.

If you are already a spa-goer or would like to try out one of these treatments or even just experience the hydrotherapy circuit, let your butler know and he/she can make reservations for you (if you have a butler).  There was also a station near the main PH Cancun lobby where you can inquire about spa deals, or just drop by the spa.  When you find the Fuel Coffee Co. just walk down that lengthy section until the very end–that is the spa.  Hours are 8-5 if I remember correctly.

Below is a brief photo gallery of amenities within the spa.  Just click on any small thumbnail shot and you will get a larger photo to examine.

What do you think?  Would you book a spa treatment here?
