I just posted yesterday about the very popular Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres. The video didn’t seem to cover the speakeasy nightclub onsite, so I did some hunting and found this video which highlights what that experience is all about so that you can make an informed choice as to whether or not you want to spend your time and energy making a reservation and attending.
There are two newer resorts in Cancun that seem to be catching a lot of attention from all-inclusive vacationers–Secrets Playa Blanca and Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres. Both resorts are adults-only and both are located north of downtown Cancun off the Hotel Zone strip–beautiful grounds, architecture, and great stretches of beach areas are hallmarks of both.
I’m always on the lookout for resorts that offer rooms/suites for parties of 5+. The higher the number of people wanting to stay in the same room or space, the more difficult it seems to be to find a resort that can accommodate larger travel parties.
At this point in my all-inclusive travels I have sampled quite a few resorts–some stays have been with well-recognized brands and a few have been with lesser known or less regarded brands. While I do tend to love Riu resorts because of the vacation value they provide, there are some luxury/higher end resorts I also hold in high esteem due to their architecture and decor, service, ambiance, and things as simple as in-room liquor besides beer cans in the mini-fridge. Others might say they value the presence of a swim-up bar or two as well as whether privacy is provided in their bathroom and don’t care as much about the brand. To each his/her own.
At this point in my travels to Cancun and the Riviera Maya I’m so used to grand resorts with impressive features and extensive amenities that I sometimes lose track of the more “funky” properties that this part of Mexico has to offer. When I say funky I mean in this instance “pretty darn cool”, not weird or strange that you would want to avoid. Many grand resorts in this part of Mexico look very nice but some of them could be placed anywhere in the world, including the US which kind of defeats the point of some travelers who want the chance of experiencing other cultures and experiences outside one’s own country.
For anyone thinking about staying at UNICO 20° 87° or for those who already have an upcoming booking, there is currently some very noisy construction going on which may interfere with your stay.
The Grand Princess megaresort complex is located 45 min. south of the Cancun airport in the Riviera Maya and consists of three resorts: Grand Riviera Princess (674 guest rooms), Grand Sunset Princess (650 guest rooms), and the Princess Family Club Riviera (144 guest rooms). The Riviera and Sunset resorts are basically mirror images of one another, while the Family Club Riviera is situated on the far north side of the megaresort complex towards the lobby area of Grand Riviera Princess (you can see the Family Club Riviera lobby area when you exit the shuttle if you are visiting this resort while staying at the adjoining adults-only Platinum Yucatan Princess).
Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya is a resort I’ve always wanted to book but haven’t had the opportunity to do so…yet. However, it is THE favorite Mexican resort for my daughter and her husband, they have stayed multiple times and love everything about it (obviously, that’s why they return!)
Who doesn’t like to enjoy a private pool as a part of one’s own guest room when vacationing? I know I certainly do, and with new resort builds it is becoming more of an emphasis.
With the rise in multi-generational travel there is a need for resort properties that can accommodate children, parents, and grandparents in rooms that are guaranteed to be connected. Generations Riviera Maya is such a resort–they offer up to and including 3 bedrooms suites. They also are located right next to the Nickelodeon resort which has one of the better water parks in the Riviera Maya so families have the option of enjoying some fun while on vacation (Generations allows a free visit to the water park for every 3 nights they stay at this resort).
