The Grand Princess megaresort complex is located 45 min. south of the Cancun airport in the Riviera Maya and consists of three resorts: Grand Riviera Princess (674 guest rooms), Grand Sunset Princess (650 guest rooms), and the Princess Family Club Riviera (144 guest rooms). The Riviera and Sunset resorts are basically mirror images of one another, while the Family Club Riviera is situated on the far north side of the megaresort complex towards the lobby area of Grand Riviera Princess (you can see the Family Club Riviera lobby area when you exit the shuttle if you are visiting this resort while staying at the adjoining adults-only Platinum Yucatan Princess).
This megaresort recently reopened May 27, 2026 after a massive renovation which caused the property to be shut down for approximately one year. Changes were made to guest rooms including adding private plunge pools to Platinum Suite rooms, adding private outdoor shower areas to Laguna Villa Suites, new restaurants were added including Trattoria Italiana with its wood-fired pizza oven, Nikkei, and Restaurant Wok. An ice cream parlor was also added along with a French style cafe which stays open 24 hrs. a day. Pools were refreshed, a large children’s water park was added, the lobbies were redone, and the Platinum Suites got their own private beach bar (Platinum Beach Bar). Thank God the sports bar on the Sunset side got a complete renovation–those super small flat screen TV’s are now gone and replaced by very large screens for easy viewing (you literally had to sit within 20 feet of the screens to see game action). Looking forward to those yummy sliders at the sports bar and my private plunge pool in my Platinum Suite this October during my stay! FYI: At 5:12 until around 5:53 on the video, Princess Family Club Riviera is featured if you want to focus on that resort–the great thing about the Family Club section is that the swim-up rooms have no age restrictions for children, plus some rooms have bunkbeds with a trundle for larger families.
Below is a video done by travepulse which highlights many of these renovations. Take a look and let me know in the comments section below if you would like to stay at this affordable family-friendly resort…
