Planet Hollywood Cancun Finally Open–Take a Look at a Swimout Suite

Planet Hollywood Cancun has finally opened, but it looks like it’s off to a slow start.  There appears to be only one a la carte open (probably due to low occupancy), in-room liquor dispensers are empty, beers don’t appear to be in the mini-fridges yet (see video below), while I read that the spa, convention center, and one a la carte restaurant are still being finished.

Cancun Airport to Offer Antigen Testing

Vacationers who don’t have their negative antigen test results in hand can now get tested at the new mobile lab located at the Cancun airport.  There will be 10 “points” between Terminals 2, 3, and 4 for travelers to request the test; test results can be obtained within 30 minutes.  The cost will be 250 pesos (around $12.50).  If you get a positive test result, you will be quarantined at one of four nearby hotels.

To date (01/24/21), the new “requirement” of having to quarantine after returning to the US following international travel is NOT YET a requirement.  The specifics for this proposed 10-day quarantine are still being reviewed by numerous US federal agencies that deal with air travel and public health.  So don’t freak out yet.

What’s Going On With the New COVID Test Requirements?

With the new Canadian air travel requirement of a negative PCR COVID test result 72 hrs. prior to flying back, rumor has it that it won’t be long now before the US requires the same.  In an attempt to keep the two largest travel markets continuing to vacation in Cancun and the Riviera Maya during the pandemic, the Hotel Association of Cancun has announced that it is in talks with Quintana Roo’s governor about testing procedures and facilities which will make it easier to obtain required test results, as well as provide accommodations for those travelers who test positive and cannot fly back until a negative test is obtained.

What’s Your Impression of Catalonia Royal Tulum?

Has anyone stayed at this resort?  If my Kauai vacation doesn’t work out for May I am thinking of booking Catalonia Royal Tulum for a larger group of individuals.  Seems pretty low key but in a great jungle setting with a beautiful beach (Xpu-Ha).  Just down the road from Barcelo Riviera Maya mega-resort with nearby cenotes.  Anyone been to Coba ruins leaving from this area of the Riviera Maya?  I’ve been to Chichen Itza and want to climb a pyramid this time.  Juan (my new go-to private driver for vacation excursions from FriendsTravelCancun) tells me he can take my party anywhere in Cancun and the Riviera Maya so I will be using him for transport as needed.
