New Site at Chichen Itza to Open 2022

There will be a new “attraction within an attraction” at Chichen Itza starting next year.  The National Institute of Anthropology and History has announced that Chichen Viejo, or “old Chichen” is a “Mayan palace within the middle of the original flora” with scenes depicting the creation of the cosmos; reportedly, the new site is a place where priests performed rituals related to fertility and “divine needs”.

Planet Hollywood Cancun Finally Open–Take a Look at a Swimout Suite

Planet Hollywood Cancun has finally opened, but it looks like it’s off to a slow start.  There appears to be only one a la carte open (probably due to low occupancy), in-room liquor dispensers are empty, beers don’t appear to be in the mini-fridges yet (see video below), while I read that the spa, convention center, and one a la carte restaurant are still being finished.

New International Tourist Tax To Begin April 2021

Rumor has it that there will be a $10 USD international tourist tax to be collected at the Cancun airport–whether it will be upon arrival or departure is still in question.  This tax is supposed to cover the use of “public domain assets”.

Royalton Resort To Become Adults-Only

For those of you familiar with the newest Royalton resort, Royalton Suites Cancun which is located in the Hotel Zone, please be aware that this resort will be changing to adults-only when it reopens on Oct. 29, 2020.  Its new name will be Royalton CHIC Suites Cancun Resort and Spa.
