Tired of Ultramar ferries? Looking for an additional ferry company operating between Cancun’s Hotel Zone and Isla Mujeres? Grupo Xcaret announced that starting Dec. 27, 2021 two new ferry ships will be taking passengers from Km. 4.6 in Cancun’s Hotel Zone (by Oasis Palm resort and Cancun’s Scenic Tower) over to nearby Isla Mujeres. The cost for tourists will be $18 USD o/w and $25 USD round trip p/person. The price includes free admission to the nearby Scenic Tower. Ferries leave Cancun every hour from 9 a.m. with the last ferry leaving Cancun to the island at 7 p.m.

Interested in the New Paradisus Playa Mujeres?
Here’s another new all-inclusive resort to keep your eye on. Paradisus Playa Mujeres was supposed to open in 2019, then 2020, then 2021, now it is scheduled to open sometime in spring 2022. (Like the new Nickelodeon resort, I will believe it when I see it). At least they are giving hard hat tours, so that’s got to amount to something positive in terms of near completion. I believe it is located between Villa del Palmar and The Beloved in the Playa Mujeres beachfront area north of downtown Cancun. I parasailed in this area during my Aug. 2020 stay at Atelier Playa Mujeres; if you go to the thumbnail pics at the end of the blog post, it is the first thumbnail in the 5th row down. Just click on the thumbnail to get a larger picture of this resort.
Garza Blanca Cancun To Celebrate Grand Opening
The new family-friendly, luxury all-inclusive optional resort, Garza Blanca Resort and Spa Cancun, is about to celebrate its Grand Opening next month. This Playa Mujeres property, which is located just south of its sister resort, Villa del Palmar, had its “soft opening” last December with the availability of only 162 suites and several of its restaurants and pools. Starting next month, all the following amenities should be available: Continue reading
Spider Monkey Help In Reopening
I re-posted this short video–it’s still one of the best resort videos I’ve seen, lol! Kudos to the monkeys for pitching in to the resort’s efforts to clean up before reopening during COVID…..
Panama Jack Resorts Now Becoming Wyndham…
The Wyndham hotel brand name is partnering with Playa Hotels and Resorts to rebrand two all-inclusive resorts in Cancun and the Riviera Maya. Continue reading
Travel and Leisure’s Top 25 Resorts in Mexico
This year’s World’s Best Awards Survey done by T&L brought some interesting results for Mexico. Lots of Cabo places on the list (interesting because Cabo beaches are black-flagged in many areas (unswimmable–injury or death “imminent” if you enter the water), some for Puerto Vallarta (understandable, it’s a beautiful area surrounded by jungle and mountains), Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo (I’ve only been to the Ixtapa Club Med and that area was very nice), one for Acapulco (Acapulco is too crime-ridden to risk it in my opinion), and a few for Cancun/Riviera Maya. Here are the ones listed for Cancun and the Riviera Maya; not all are all-inclusive. Continue reading
New Breathless Resort To Open
Vacationers looking for another great AMR Collection resort to open should check out the brand new Breathless Cancun Soul–an adults-only hotel just west of Riu Palace Peninsula on the upper part of the “7” in the Hotel Zone. It is scheduled to open Dec. 7, 2021.
Major Transportation Issue…
The other day I read about a robbery which occurred on one of the public buses in Cancun’s Hotel Zone. This is the first such robbery I know of occurring in this area of Mexico since I started vacationing here in 2012. According to the news story, a single adult male boarded one of the public buses, brandished a gun, and demanded all cell phones. While the driver attempted to stop him, he was hit in the head with the weapon and the robber quickly went through the bus collecting all cell phones, then departed the bus.
Don’t Expect Lobster on Some Resort Menus…
Riu posted that their resorts, for the time being, will not be serving lobsters, clams, or oysters. This is being done with respect to an order from the Mexico Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development–from how I understand it, there is a time of year when capturing certain marine life is banned in order to avoid endangering the species overall. (If someone has a better explanation, please let me know).
Secrets Silversands to Become…….
Finally got official word that Secrets Silversands will open as Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun sometime in 2021. There is no specific date set yet, however. I double checked the old SS address with the new Hyatt address and they are both the same, so there’s no doubt this is the replacement.
