Take a look at Royal Hideaway Playacar from a drone’s perspective–this was taken prior to the renovations, so a few outdoor spaces may look a tad different here than what the resort currently looks like (re. There is a new visitor attraction in Cancun’s Hotel Zone which will be opening sometime next week–it is called Gran Rueda Cancun and it is located at km. 9 in the Hotel Zone. Grand Rueda Cancun is a 200 ft. high ferris wheel with 42 climate-controlled gondolas; the entire ride lasts approximately 20 min. and will give visitors a panoramic look at the Hotel Zone and Nichupté Lagoon. Admission prices have not yet been listed.
I found a very nice video of El Dorado Maroma’s newest resort addition, the Overwater Palafitos. The video includes a glimpse into the extra amenities which come along with booking this suite category, such as the private lounge, spa, restaurant, and beach area. Take a look!
Apparently there was a fire at Grand Bahia Principe Tulum which started in the evening hours yesterday, Jan. 13 2017. The fire began in the Circle lobby bar area due to an electrical short circuit and has destroyed the bar area. While some initial reports stated the lobby and theater were gone as well, these areas were not greatly affected and the resort has put up a temporary bar in the theater area. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident.

The new Dreams resort, Dreams Playa Mujeres, has just announced that they will be adding an interactive dolphin program to the resort in the summer of 2017. For those of you who have objections to this type of program, it is important to know this prior to booking. Just a heads up.
Cancun’s Union of Taxi Drivers has started their own private transportation service called VIP Fleet. It is meant to compete with Uber which recently began services in the Cancun area. VIP Fleet will be using digitally metered vehicles and will be charging by time and distance rather than mileage or artificially inflated rates. A “user fee” of 15 pesos will automatically be added to every fare. All vehicles used are 5 yrs. old or less, have A/C, and are supposedly in excellent condition.
