While I have already covered the Overwater Palafitos at EDM in a prior suite review post, I thought I’d highlight a less expensive alternative if you are thinking about booking this resort. Let’s face it, you could drop some very serious cash here ($1600-$2500 USD p/night for two at the palafitos–that’s rack rate), but there are some very lovely rooms at EDM that won’t drain your bank account to that extent.

Newly Renovated Swim-Up Suite at Secrets Maroma–A Suite Review
Secrets Maroma has been a favorite adults-only resort in the Riviera Maya since it opened in 2008. Popular with honeymooners and those celebrating anniversaries, the resort is located on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (voted as “Worlds Best Beach” for four consecutive years by the Travel Channel). The beach is exquisite with its white sand and azur-colored ocean water, calm waves for swimming, and underdeveloped surrounding area–there are only a handful of resorts (some are not all-inclusive) gracing lovely Punta Maroma.
The Reef 28 Where Every Room Is A Suite–A Suite Review
The Reef 28 is a relatively new adults-only all-inclusive OPTIONAL hotel and spa right in the heart of busy Playa del Carmen in the Riviera Maya (the hotel opened in 2018). It’s basically a block away from famous 5th Avenue and a long block from the beach with access to Mamita’s Beach Club. This boutique hotel only offers 120 guest rooms, all of which are suites with only two room categories–Jr. and Master Suites with plenty of space (for a Playa del Carmen guest room), but not necessarily the best room views. But that’s the price tag attached if one wants to stay in the midst of the very busy city of Playa del Carmen.
Tips on the Valentin Imperial Maya
My daughter and her husband are return visitors to the adults-only Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya resort, it is their “home away from home” resort go-to. After her most recent visit I asked if she would be willing to write some helpful tips about staying at this resort for my blog, so here they are. Continue reading
Viceroy Riviera Maya Premium Villa–A Suite Review
Want to get away to an exclusive boutique resort in a jungle setting? How about adding a beautiful private villa with its own plunge pool and outdoor shower in the mix? If this sounds like your kind of vacation, then the Viceroy Riviera Maya may be the resort for you.
Jr. Suite Oceanfront Video at the New Barcelo Maya Riviera
Interior resort videos are starting to come out at the new adults-only Barcelo Maya Riviera. The resort just opened several days ago and it is slowly being filled by guests; right now it is pretty much a ghost town, but with Christmas and New Years coming up I’m sure the resort will be pretty much at capacity. This new resort has 850 suites; 110 of them are swim-ups. It will have the largest conference facilities in the Riviera Maya, so the resort has yet to experience what this will be like for the entire mega-resort (the entire resort property offers over 1.5 miles of beachfront with five additional resorts–the Barcelo Maya Beach which is right next door, the Maya Caribe, Maya Colonial, Maya Tropical, and the Palace which is at the far north end).
Another Suite Review–UNICO 2087 Alcoba Oceanfront
Time for another suite review, on this occasion from the adults-only UNICO 2087 in the Riviera Maya. This is a five-star property and also a member of the Leading Hotels of the World (LHW); the resort has additional accolades including Travel and Leisure’s ranking of #7 out of 15 in the category of best Mexico Resort Hotels, in addition to ranking #3 in Conde Nast’s Reader’s Choice Awards in the category of best resorts in Eastern Mexico. The 2087 in its name comes from the resort’s latitude and longitude coordinates.
New Room Category Review–Private Pool Casita Suite at El Dorado Casitas Royale
It’s Friday again and time for a new room category review! This time I’m highlighting the Private Pool Casita Suite at the adults-only El Dorado Casitas Royale. This resort is located in the Riviera Maya about 25 min. south of the Cancun airport. The resort is directly adjacent to its sister resorts, El Dorado Royale to the south, and Generation Riviera Maya to the north, and has full access to all amenities at El Dorado Royale. While the Casitas Royale has always been a good choice for couples who are celebrating a special occasion such as a honeymoon or anniversary, single adults may also appreciate the resort’s luxurious atmosphere and extra-large suites.
New Adults-Only Section at Barcelo Maya Grand Resort
The plan is still on for the new adults-only section of the Barcelo Maya Grand resort to open either this Dec. 2019 or Jan. 2020. Those who visit the wonderfully informative site of Unofficial Barcelo Maya take note–there is a newer entry dated Dec. 2018 by Phil in Ottawa (look in the discussion section) that has recent pics of what the construction looks like. If you haven’t yet registered to post/respond in the discussion section, it is worthwhile to do so since you can then ask questions and get info from vacationers who have spent multiple trips going to this resort and are quite knowledgeable.
