Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort New Video Tour
A fabulous new video of the resort was just posted on YouTube–looks like they used a GoPro camera. Really gives an excellent overview of what the grounds and beach look like–note the absence of loungers around the main pool, only Bali beds. Have a look!
Beach Reassignment at Grand Bahia Principe Coba/Sian Ka’an
It is finally official, as of January 17, 2015, the beach areas have been reassigned between the Sian Ka’an and the Coba resorts at Grand Bahia Principe resort in the Riviera Maya. Guests staying at Sian Ka’an will now be spending their beach time next to the Akumal resort’s beach (the old Coba beach), while Coba guests will now be using the Holbox beach bar and bathroom areas (the old Sian Ka’an beach). This makes much more sense given the changes which have occurred since the Akumal resort made the switch to the Luxury Don Pablo collection.
Excellence Riviera Cancun Finishes Public Space Renovations
Excellence Riviera Cancun has added some new and exciting touches with Phase II of its renovations. An 8th restaurant has been added, Flavor Market, which is a tapas a la carte alternative.

Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort Update and Slideshow
Progress is definitely occurring in the completion of the renovation work at the old ABR. According to recent reports, guest room work is nearing completion on the 2nd and 3rd floor rooms, and the Penthouse Rooftop Suites may be finished by mid January 2015. Riu Palace Mexico For Daytime Fun
Although I had a great time at Riu Palace Riviera Maya when I vacationed there in February 2014, (check out my review), I was curious to see what the other nearby Riu properties were like. Riu Palace guests are fortunate in that they may use all other Riu resort amenities such as the pools, loungers, drink at the bars, eat breakfast or lunch at their restaurants, etc., as long as you eat dinner at the resort with which you’ve originally booked. Since there were several Riu resorts within walking distance to my resort (Riu Playacar, Riu Yucatan, Riu Palace Mexico, and Riu Tequila), I decided to check out Riu Palace Mexico and see what their renovations looked like for myself.

Excellence Riviera Cancun Renovations
Renovations at Excellence Riviera Cancun are continuing through November 2, 2014. Phase I began September 1, 2014, and finished September 16, 2014. Phase I included renovations of all Club guest rooms (the Club pool and lounge were also closed at this time). Some of these improvements include new pillow top mattresses, new frosted glass doors in the bathroom, larger seating areas in the room and on the balcony, and more room for suitcases.
