I am going on vacation in a few days! And to my favorite place–where else, Mexico. Namely, staying in the Riviera Maya at two resorts which are part of the same Iberostar megaresort complex at Playa Paraiso. I will be traveling with a family member I haven’t traveled with before so I am excited about a new experience.
Many vacationers who love all-inclusive resorts go for the opportunity to eat and drink with impunity (or perceived impunity until your clothes feel a bit more snug when you get back home). Most resorts in Mexico will gladly give you your fill of burgers, tacos, pizza, etc., but what if you want something different? What if you want to skip the fast food options to save time from cooking after a hard day’s work? What if you want to reconnect with yourself instead of spending your vacation in the more mindless fashion of eat, drink, pool and beach time, drink some more, and repeat?
Now that AVA Cancun has had about a year to work out the “kinks”, it looks like there are some new additions and changes that have been made.
Here’s some more info on the new Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres; it just opened a couple of months ago so some aspects of the resort are still being worked out, but overall it looks great (with the exception of the new foliage, but only time will fix that).
It’s been about a year since Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres opened its doors to guests, and it looks like things are going incredibly smoothly for such a “young” resort. Even the flora looks great and more mature than what I would expect for a newer resort.
I always like to know more about the resorts at which I will be staying prior to my arrival…it’s part of the fun and anticipation of a resort stay! Plus I don’t want to miss anything important I should be experiencing when I do arrive.
There’s a new video out on Secrets Moxche, a beautiful adults-only all-inclusive resort located just north of Playa del Carmen. I stayed at this resort in 2022 and already wrote a resort review about it, you can read it by clicking this link.
Life and Travel has posted a second video showing more of this brand new resort which just opened–Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres. Looks like the spa isn’t completely open yet, but it’s not unusual for new resorts to open their doors with some amenities not completely done.

Here’s another resort idea for larger families traveling together…Sensira Resort and Spa offers 359 guest rooms; several room categories are two bedroom suites (plus a sofa bed) which can accommodate parties of 7. This resort is located 20-25 min. south of Cancun’s airport, so it’s within easy driving distance once you’ve landed. It also offers 8 restaurants, 5 bars, 3 pools (including an adults-only and a separate family pool), a children’s water park area, mini-golf course, children’s zipline, climbing wall, and a Toddler’s Club for 18 mos. thru 3 yrs. (along with the typical Kid’s and Teen Clubs).
