If you haven’t checked out the Barcelo mega-resort in the Riviera Maya lately, you may be surprised at all of the changes that have taken place in the last two years. Here’s a bird’s-eye view of some of those changes–take a look!
My Riu Playacar walk-through video has been up for awhile on YouTube, but I thought I’d post it since some readers may not visit that site with regularity. Take a look–here’s what the new renovations look like.
The newly renovated Riu Playacar has already made some changes since its reopening the fall of 2015. Due to the popularity of its main buffet, The Palms, a la carte reservations are no longer required for either the steakhouse or Jade. There is a new a la carte restaurant which shares space with the steakhouse and it serves Mexican cuisine. Reservations are not required for this restaurant either. You just need to show up. Another reason to like this resort–no standing in another line just to put your name on a list with a set dinner time. Just show up–can’t get more easy than that.
Sandos Caracol just completed a new addition to their waterpark and added many new slides for both children and adults. Looks awesome (and some look scary at the same time!).

After closing several months for a complete renovation, Riu Playacar opened its doors Oct. 2015 to a practically brand new resort. Riu Palace Las Americas is in the final stages of finishing its guest room renovations. Although initially scheduled to be completed Oct. 10, 2015, the estimated completion date has been re-set to Oct. 29, 2015. Room renovations have reportedly consisted of installing see-through plexiglass panels on the balconies, new balcony doors, and installing new bathroom amenities including a walk-in shower (the old bathrooms had a dark tub/shower combo). The resort has remained open during these renovations with the option of transferring to the Riu Palace Peninsula.

If you have a Facebook account, you have probably already seen some of the artist renderings or models of the new addition to EDSS.
