New Xel-Ha Park Waterslide to Open Summer 2017

Riviera Maya’s Xel-Há Park is set to debut the world’s fourth tallest waterslide this summer.  Faro-Tobogán will be 141 feet tall, and riders will travel at 26 feet p/second; toboggan riders will end their ride in a cenote.  In addition to the waterslide, the Faro-Tobogán water park will include tunnels and submerged sculptures, so the waterslide is part of a new attraction within the existing park.

New Cancun Attraction

There is a new visitor attraction in Cancun’s Hotel Zone which will be opening sometime next week–it is called Gran Rueda Cancun and it is located at km. 9 in the Hotel Zone.  Grand Rueda Cancun is a 200 ft. high ferris wheel with 42 climate-controlled gondolas; the entire ride lasts approximately 20 min. and will give visitors a panoramic look at the Hotel Zone and Nichupté Lagoon. Admission prices have not yet been listed.

New Aquarium in Playa del Carmen

There is a new aquarium in Playa del Carmen called L’Aquarium by Blau Life.  It consists of 45 exhibitions and promotes the education and conservation of marine life through observation and interaction with the exhibits.  It is the 3rd largest aquarium in the country and is located on the corner of 5th Avenue and 14th Street.  At this time there is a paucity of information about the new attraction, but I’m sure they will be promoting it via Facebook and/or a website, so stay tuned.

New Animal/Monkey Sanctuary Open in Akumal

For those of you who like to explore away from your resort, there is a new monkey/animal sanctuary which recently opened just outside the town of Akumal in the Riviera Maya.  While it is called the Akumal Monkey Sanctuary, there are several different types of animals which are housed onsite including several macaws, a couple of boa constrictors, a red kangaroo, a Shetland pony, a lemur, several burros, as well as several different types of monkeys.
