Isla Mujeres is just a short ferry ride away from Cancun–there are several ferry piers within Cancun’s Hotel Zone as well as two in the area just south of Playa Mujeres, so it’s fairly easy to get over to that small island.
I guess SLS Playa Mujeres owners found something in the fine print to overturn the Mexican government’s denial of entry to the resort due to safety risks–some issue with the entrances and exits…They officially opened and let in their first guests yesterday.

SLS Playa Mujeres opens mid November 2025. If you were expecting a Paradisus resort, forget it, it’s now an SLS property.
I’ve been wondering for several years what was to become of Paradisus Playa Mujeres. I parasailed over it, read about it, saw pics and videos about it, but it never seemed to officially open. While I don’t know exactly what happened behind the scenes, it looks like Meliá has sold this property (it is no longer advertised as a Meliá property on their website), and instead this resort will open Nov. 15, 2024, as SLS Playa Mujeres.
Is anyone else interested in Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres which is currently under construction? I certainly am. Excellence, in my opinion, is one of the best brand names when it comes to vacationing at an all-inclusive resort (Finest resorts is the family-friendly option for this brand). They don’t skimp on anything, generally have great food, in-room liquor, top-class amenities–what’s NOT to like…
Hotel Mousai Cancun is a brand new luxury adults-only all-inclusive resort. Even though it only has 88 suites, it offers a rooftop pool area. More and more new resorts are including this kind of space–maximizing views while offering a smaller version of a main pool experience.
For those of you familiar with Secrets Tulum, you already know that this resort is not located on the beach. You have to take a 20 min. shuttle ride from the main part of the resort to reach their beautiful beach club which is now referred to as Zamna Beach Club.
Excellence resorts, in my opinion, are some of the best all-inclusive properties in Mexico (some would say in the Caribbean). The brand knows how to give vacationers almost everything they’d want on a trip–luxurious but not stuffy surroundings and suites, good food, great drinks with top-shelf liquor, they don’t skimp on in-room liquor, lots of pool experiences and things to do on-site. It’s almost the perfect vacation.
