Cenotes are infinitely beautiful, interesting places filled with Mexican history. There are between 6,000-7,000 of them in the Yucatan Peninsula alone (most likely an underreported number) with only around 150 that are currently open to visitors. In case you don’t know, cenotes are basically limestone sinkholes that form when limestone bedrock partially or totally collapses and exposes fresh groundwater. Cenotes are practically everywhere in the Riviera Maya, and more are being accidentally discovered all the time.

Want To Know What Goes On During The Xenotes Tour?
The Xenotes Tour by Xcaret is one of the most booked tours out there right now. It is extremely popular with vacationers to the Cancun and Riviera Maya areas and especially more so for those within the age group of 20-40.
A Cenote Day Club Experience…
Want to experience the best of both a day club and a cenote? Then head to Buuts’ Ha’ Cenote Club. If you want an idea of its location in the Riviera Maya, it’s south of Xel-Há Park and north of Dreams Tulum (about a 15 min. drive north of Tulum).

Interested In Visiting Tulum During Your Next Mexico Vacation?
Lots of vacationers have either heard of Tulum or have been visiting this Riviera Maya gem for many years. It is an iconic travel destination in itself featuring Mayan ruins, yoga retreats, beach clubs for day trippers, some really great boutique hotels with 5* amenities, and has become a haven for artists from around the world. In terms of all-inclusive resorts, however, it remains uncommercialized in this respect–the only true all-inclusive resort I know about which is actually located in Tulum is the adults-only Kore Retreat and Spa, or Kore Tulum as it is commonly called. While this boutique resort boasts luxury amenities and a great spa, guests are shuttled to another beach since the on-site beach cannot be safely accessed (kind of like staying at TRS Yucatan where you have to go to another resort’s beach to get into the water). The nearest all-inclusive resort to Tulum that has beach access is Dreams Tulum which is just north of the Tulum ruins.
Private Cenote For Rent Near Puerto Morelos?
I ran across this video when searching for cenote ideas for my vacation coming up in March. This is the first time I’ve ever read about a private cenote you can rent just for your vacation party. That means no lines to get in, no other cenote visitors vying for space, it’s all yours to enjoy!! It’s called Cenote Elvira and it’s located on Ruta de los Cenotes road by Puerto Morelos.
Want Another Resort Water Park Option?
There’s been a lot of hype about the huge water park at the new Nickelodeon Riviera Maya. The only catch is the price one has to pay to stay there–$5,500 for two adults in the off season of January in a basic king room (no airfare)…not everyone can afford that kind of price tag.
