This Marriott resort used to be called CasaMagna and it was an all-inclusive optional resort. It has been closed since March 2023, and it recently opened as an all-inclusive resort fully renovated from top to bottom. Not only is everything redone, but the resort added a small children’s water park area complete with a lazy river. Marriott Cancun is family-friendly and right on a beautiful beach in Cancun’s Hotel Zone.
For those of you thinking of staying at Secrets Playa Mujeres in 2024, be aware that Hyatt has cancelled the planned renovations for this year.
I haven’t posted since before I left my latest Mexico trip, so here’s a quick recap of changes I’ve noticed just from the trip I took Dec. 2023.
Hyatt’s newest adults-only resort, Hyatt Vivid Grand Island, is still scheduled to open April 1, 2024. It will be the first of a two-part resort to open with the second being an adjoining family-friendly resort option called Dreams Grand Island, but the Dreams resort is still being completed and will not open at the same time. When it does open, guests of the new Hyatt will have access to the second resort–stay at one play at two. I already posted an article about the new Hyatt and you can read it here.

With its grand opening on Feb. 1, 2024, Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres rolled out the red carpet for their guests at this brand new adults-only luxury all-inclusive resort. If you are thinking of staying here, remember that this resort will be opening its amenities in stages–only 341 out of 507 rooms available, Oceana restaurant not supposed to be available until the end of Feb., resort amenities not available until April 1 (theater, tennis and pickleball courts, rest of rooms), while the spa and gym are not supposed to be open until June 1.
Most vacationers who visit the Cancun/Riviera Maya areas of Mexico already know about VISITAX, or departure tax which became law in 2021. This requires all visitors ages 4+ who stay in this area of Mexico up to 180 days to pay their departure tax prior to leaving the country to return home or go to their next travel destination.
The brand new Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres is still scheduled to officially open Feb. 1, 2024. However, not all of the resort amenities will be available until after its opening. She has recently posted a video about the brand new Hyatt Vivid Grand Island resort which will be opening soon in the Cancun area…I did a short post on Dec. 29 with an outline of what I knew about this new resort, but Christine can fill in some of the blanks info-wise if you are interested in this new all-inclusive property.
