I checked the live webcam of Akumal Bay this morning and quite frankly was shocked at how free of sargassum it actually is considering what I’ve been seeing and hearing about in other reports.

Playa del Carmen Sargassum Update
Looks like it’s going to be a difficult sargassum season for vacationers this year. If you will be vacationing in the Riviera Maya, expect large deposits of the stuff to lie just offshore, even Cancun’s Hotel Zone has already been hit by these deposits.
Ever Been To Yal-Ku Lagoon?
Many people who vacation in Cancun or the Riviera Maya wind up at Akumal Bay to snorkel with sea turtles–it is the second most popular destination to visit and the most popular beach destination in this area of Mexico to visit when it comes to tourism.
December 2025 Trip Booked!
Thank goodness I finalized my Dec. 2025 Cancun trip, I always get a bit restless when there’s no travel plans on my calendar.
According To Science, A Day At The Beach Is Good For Your Brain!
I already wrote a blog article on how being at the beach and hearing the rhythmic sounds of the ocean can change brain wave activity and thus improve one’s mental health overall (you can read this article here), so now I’m going to dive into other ways that being on the beach is good for your body, brain, and mental health!
Interested In What the Beach Looks Like At Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal?
While I’ve never stayed at the very large Bahia Principe megaresort which is located close to Akumal in the Riviera Maya, I do know that the beach area has always had mixed reviews due to the sand whales which were placed offshore to prevent beach erosion (sand whales is a term that describes the incredibly huge black sand-filled bags which are located offshore and basically ruin a perfect ocean panorama at some Riviera Maya resorts).
Interested In The Beach At The New AVA Cancun Resort?
For those of you interested in what the beach actually looks like at the new family-friendly AVA Cancun, here’s recent drone footage done by My Trip Coach Kaley. While the resort is now open, note that there are no loungers on the beach, so beach setup whatsoever.
Isla Mujeres From A Drone–A Thorough Review of This Beautiful Island…
I found this great video of the beautiful island of Isla Mujeres which is easily reached from Cancun’s Hotel Zone. It’s great for a day trip if you are staying in Cancun or the Playa Mujeres/Costa Mujeres areas since there are multiple ferry piers to take people over to the island. You also have the option of booking a catamaran excursion which will take you to Isla Mujeres in addition to providing snorkeling opportunities plus an open bar and lunch from your catamaran.
Looking To Find A Beautiful Deserted Beach In Cancun?
Tired of experiencing crowded beaches in Cancun when staying at your all-inclusive resort? Tired of getting up early to “reserve” your beach lounger in just the perfect place with the perfect view? Then get ready to have an adventure!
Another New Video On The Beach Club For Hyatt Vivid Grand Island…
Looks like this second video about the Beach Club for the brand new Hyatt Vivid Grand Island (video done by doubleu1017) shows a bit more about this area of the resort. There are apparently three levels with a restaurant, bar, loungers, and a large netted area for lounging (like you’d see on a catamaran) on the top level, the infinity pools and another bar on the middle floor (they have put sand on the top two floors to make it more like a beach), and if you go down another flight of stairs there is the actual beach with loungers and shade umbrellas.
