Say you’re staying a week at an all-inclusive resort in Cancun’s Hotel Zone…and you realize you are getting bored just laying around poolside, bellying up to the swim-up bar, and eating like there’s no tomorrow. What do you do?
Atelier Playa Mujeres and Excellence Playa Mujeres are two of the most popular adults-only luxury all-inclusive resorts in Cancun. People are always recommending one or the other (or both) when answering questions about which resorts in this part of Mexico are the best…When I’ve stayed at various resorts and gotten into conversations with other guests about their favorite places to vacation, one or the other typically comes up in that conversation.
For those of you familiar with Secrets Tulum, you already know that this resort is not located on the beach. You have to take a 20 min. shuttle ride from the main part of the resort to reach their beautiful beach club which is now referred to as Zamna Beach Club.

Excellence resorts, in my opinion, are some of the best all-inclusive properties in Mexico (some would say in the Caribbean). The brand knows how to give vacationers almost everything they’d want on a trip–luxurious but not stuffy surroundings and suites, good food, great drinks with top-shelf liquor, they don’t skimp on in-room liquor, lots of pool experiences and things to do on-site. It’s almost the perfect vacation.
For those of you not familiar with Villa del Palmar, it is an all-inclusive optional resort in the Playa Mujeres area north of downtown Cancun. Tafer Resorts has three adjacent properties right in this location–Villa del Palmar, Garza Blanca Cancun, and the brand new Hotel Mousai Cancun.
Now here’s a family-friendly luxury all-inclusive optional resort you don’t see advertised that much–at least, I don’t. Garza Blanca Cancun is located at the beginning of the Playa Mujeres area north of downtown Cancun; it’s right next to Villa del Palmar, another all-inclusive optional resort, and guests of Garca Blanca Cancun have access to Villa del Palmar so you have a stay at one play at two resort experience.
I found a video done by popular YouTube creator, “Coolist” (aka James Williams) regarding tips on saving money when booking your vacation (and who doesn’t want to do that…). Nice to hear that I’m already doing some of his suggestions, interesting to hear about the ones I am not.
For those of you interested in what the beach actually looks like at the new family-friendly AVA Cancun, here’s recent drone footage done by My Trip Coach Kaley. While the resort is now open, note that there are no loungers on the beach, so beach setup whatsoever.
FYI: As of 11/16/24, Marriott has listed the projected opening timeline to be Jan. 2025; however, I was unable to make a booking in either Jan. or Feb. 2025, so it may be after Jan. 2025 before the resort reopens.
