What’s Up With the Ex-Melody Maker?

I keep seeing on my blog stats that readers still want to know what’s going on with the ex-ME Cancun/ex-Melody Maker resort in Cancun’s Hotel Zone…the answer is that I do not know what’s going on with the much anticipated opening of this resort as the Armar House which is now owned by Marriott.

This resort sits just south of the Beach Palace in the actual heart of the Hotel Zone; it’s very close to the ferris wheel and the famous La Isla Mall so it has a location that can’t be beat.  This resort was supposed to open as Armar House in late 2020, then it was postponed until 2021, and the resort website states it still hasn’t opened with no listed opening date.  I’m not sure what the issue is, no significant weather related destruction has been noted which may have been responsible for the setback, nor can I believe that Marriott is having $ problems which prevents it from moving forward with the opening.  The only thing I can think of may be the issue of whether it will open as an adults-only or a family-friendly resort.  It was going to originally open as a family-friendly property, but then there were hints that the resort would be moving to an adults-only format.

If you visit the resort’s website, there are some room pics that aren’t up yet which may indicate not all rooms are complete.  Maybe that is the holdout?  I’m keeping my eye on the Oceanfront Swim-Out Villa since those are supposed to have a premier beachfront location, just like the swim-outs at the Melody Maker.

Below is a video of what some of the spaces and rooms look like at the Armar House.  What do you think?  If you know any info about an opening date, please post it in the comments section below so we can have an idea of when to look forward to this event.  Thanks!

  1. I have stayed many times when it was the ME CANCUN and absolutely loved it. Last time in Cancún I asked a local about the property and why it’s still closed. According to the local, the pool construction was extended on to public beach area and there were no permits for this new pool construction. Thus a battle between the owners of the hotel group and the city of Cancún. I would hope someone would investigate this further.

    • Thanks so much for your info!! I did not know what the extended hold up was, but that gives me a better idea of what’s going on. Thanks again!
