Pics of the Unfinished Senator Riviera Cancun

When I stayed at Dreams Natura in November 2020, I took some pictures of the then current construction status of the neighboring resort, Senator Riviera Cancun Spa Resort.  I thought I would write a separate blog post along with the pictures I took and let you readers decide if you think it will in fact be completed by December 2021 (that’s the most recent opening date on the resort website).  Due to the rushing waters of the mangrove runoff, I chose not to walk directly over to the Senator and take head on shots of the resort–I wasn’t going to risk walking through deeper waters to get to that beach with God only knows what was being flushed out to sea from the mangroves via the runoff.  (From present day pics of Dreams Natura beach there is now a sign warning guests of possible alligators/crocodiles on the beach–yikes).

This resort has experienced multiple setbacks in its scheduled opening dates; rumors of financial problems have been rife to explain why the resort is still a construction shell when it’s last delayed opening date was April 2020.  The resort company states that the delays have been due to “different internal situations”, which could mean just about anything.

If it ever gets finished, this resort will have a lot to offer families, including a stellar water park with 14 slides, two lazy rivers, 3 pools, 20+ dining opportunities, plus a separate adults-only section.

Here’s the pics I took Nov. 2020 while I stayed next door at Dreams Natura.  You can also see part of the resort’s south side and the mangrove runoff in the beginning of my Dreams Natura beach video–click here.

Take a few minutes to view the pics by clicking on the thumbnails–it will give you the full-size photo.  What do you think?  Will it be finished or not by the end of the year?

  1. Due to stay here August 2022 getting worried it’ll never be completed but staying optimistic it will thank you for the pictures and the update I’m sure it will be a beautiful resort if it ever opens x

    • I think the resort ran into money difficulties. From what I understand, not much progress has been made since these pics were taken in Nov. 2020.

  2. I just stayed at Dreams Natura the last week of March 2022 and the constructure state looks the same as the pics posted. However, I can say that construction has resumed so that is a positive.

  3. I’m at dreams natura now and my room faces this hotel, thankfully I’m being moved to ocean view later today. To say construction has restarted may be a slight over statement. Today I can see 4 construction workers fiddling around but nothing major is happening. Also the smell of the mangrove/swamp is a bit disturbing.

I have noticed that out of all the rooms facing here, there is one with curtains and balcony glass, perhaps it’s a very soft opening 😀😀😀

    • lol, with emphasis on the “soft” part…Their money must be coming in at a snail’s pace if they can only afford 4 workers. Thanks for the update.
