Interested In A Brand New Secrets Resort?

Well, the cat’s been out of the bag since Oct. 2020, but looks like this mouse has been scurrying around oblivious to new info……AMResorts has announced their new resort, Secrets Playa del Carmen, will open in 2021, but my guess is it will most likely open in 2022 since it is a new build north of Playa del Carmen (I read that it is close to Sandos Caracol).

Here’s a short list of its major amenities:

  • 671 guest rooms and suites
  • within a gated community right by a golf course (used to be called Gran Coyote Golf Riviera Maya)
  • 10 restaurants (one has a Michelin-starred chef), 6 bars (one is a sports bar), and 7 pools (sometimes the swim-up pools are included in this number).  The info page states there are “3 interior beach-inspired areas”–at least one of the pools (closest to the main building) looks like it has a gradual entry with a beach-type look
  • 4 on-site man-made cenotes, but it doesn’t mention you’d be able to swim in them
  • amphitheater-styled theater with advanced digital technology
  • the first time Secrets will include an upgrade to an upgrade–the Impression Club in addition to the usual Privilege Club upgrade.  Impression Club offers larger suites on the top floors with beachfront views, high end amenities, butler service, access to private rooftop pool, private restaurant, private bar, and private beach area.  Impression Club guests also have unrestricted access to the entire resort including Privilege Club upgraded areas.

From its initial write-up, it appears that this resort may be attempting to sell itself to convention attendees.  I’ve been at resorts where you hardly knew these guests were about, then other resorts where they would close off entire sections of the resort just for convention parties and events.  Who knows at this point what will transpire…

What do you think?  Are you interested in this resort?

  1. Why did resorts get permission to begin constructing buildings over five stories in the Riviera Maya? It’s been my understanding that there was always a height limit which has been what has made the RM more appealing, vs the Miami-like atmosphere of Cancun. How terrible that Secrets has gotten away with this. Other resorts will follow now and the charm of the RM will be lost for good.

    • I don’t know how they were allowed to increase the size, must have been $ driven…I don’t think Secrets started it, but they are certainly going the way of maximizing profit by having a greater number of guests allowed in one place. I certainly wouldn’t want the Riviera Maya to look like the Hotel Zone either.
