Drone Video of Maroma Beach

For those of you who’ve heard about Maroma Beach (voted one of the world’s best beaches) but have not yet experienced it, here’s a video giving you an idea of it’s beauty.  The resorts covered in the video are the Catalonia Playa Maroma (all-inclusive), Secrets Maroma (all-inclusive), and the Belmond Maroma (not all-inclusive).

Take a look and tell me what you think–have you been here?  If not, would you want to stay at a resort on this beach?

  1. Show me a video of Maroma beach looking like this from April – July and I will be impressed. hate to be the complainer again but I have been to the Cancun, Riviera Maya area in April for like the last 5 years and the beaches have been filled with Sargassum. Went to Secrets Akumal last year and the beach in front of the resort was nice but only because a 6 man team was raking up seaweed all day every day and April is just the start of Sargassum season. Further down the beach sargassum was piled 8 ft wide and 3 ft deep. I sure wish travel sites would be honest about the sargassum situation in the Caribbean rather than trying to cover it up and have angry/dissapointed tourists leave feeling scammed because they booked a VERY expensive trip to Maroma beach only to find brown water and a stinky beach.

    • Randy: I was just in the Playacar area August 2019 and Playacar beach was almost immaculate. I have faith that some beaches are going back to what they looked like, but sargassum is dependent on the tides so there is no guarantee that beaches will be pristine. Hard to predict.

      • We are huge fans of the Riviera Maya resorts and would love nothing more than to see the Sargassum gone forever but I just don’t see it ever going away unless people change and stop polluting the oceans or the Sargassum is stopped at its source. Allowing the seaweed to grow and multiply in the open ocean and then waiting for it to hit the beaches before clearing it sounds like a losing battle. Collecting it using navy ships also sounds like to large of a task. We are going to Puerto Vallarta next week. Will be the first time in 8 years we have strayed from the Caribbean side of Mexico. Kind of in wait and see mode about returning to the Caribbean side again. Fingers crossed I guess.

        • Randy: I agree because part of the problem from my understanding is the polluted runoff from various sources. Combine that with oceans heating up due to climate change and you have a recipe for goo. Where will you be staying in PV? Secrets? Somewhere else? I’ve been to the Barcelo there several times and loved it. If you aren’t a huge beach lover you may want to try Cabo as well. I will be going to the new Hard Rock in Cabo in a couple of weeks and am thinking of posting some pics on my Instagram accounts. Have a great stay in PV!
