While this is unconfirmed, rumor has it that the Senator Riviera Cancun has recently been sold to Blue Diamond Resorts. Blue Diamond Resorts plans to open this half- finished structure as the Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun later on in 2022. If you had been following the Senator’s progress (or lack thereof), you might remember that this property is located adjacent to Dreams Natura north of Puerto Morelos. (If you want to see some pics of the unfinished property from several years ago when I stayed at Dreams Natura, just click here).
If you look at some of the resort stats (re. number of pools, waterslides, lazy rivers, etc.), there are quite a few similarities which leads one to believe this is not just a rumor. I’ve made a list of the amenities this resort has to offer:
- 1,049 rooms
- on-site water park with 14 waterslides, two lazy rivers, and kid’s splash pad
- laser tag, bowling alley, trampoline park, and both indoor and outdoor theaters (movies shown in the indoor theater)
- 12 restaurants and 9 bars
- 9 suite categories, 7 with Diamond Club upgrade
- spa and gym
If this new Royalton is indeed the Senator, expect the beach to be less than stellar. If you are satisfied with having great resort amenities minus a great beach, this may be the resort for you and your family.
What do you think? Would you stay at this new resort?
