Quarantine Required After Return to US From International Travel?

To date (01/24/21), the new “requirement” of having to quarantine after returning to the US following international travel is NOT YET a requirement.  The specifics for this proposed 10-day quarantine are still being reviewed by numerous US federal agencies that deal with air travel and public health.  So don’t freak out yet.

You may be freaking out, however, at the new mandate to get a COVID test prior to your return to the US following international travel.  Obtaining a negative antigen/NAAT COVID test result is now a requirement to even get on a plane back to the US.  Many Cancun/Riviera Maya resorts are trying to temporarily absorb most of this cost by offering free antigen tests, free tests along with free stays if testing positive, or discounted tests and stays if one tests positive.  Many resorts are also offering on-site antigen testing, so no having to get a cab to a local clinic or hospital.

The key word here is temporarily.  Most resorts are offering these deals and conveniences for vacationers only through the end of March 2021.  To date, the only all-inclusive resort I’ve read offering an extension is Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya.  They are extending their COVID testing/stays until the end of August, 2021.  Bookings have to be made by the end of March 2021.  If you hear of or read about any other resorts extending this offer, please post and let all of us know.

Well, will you be traveling to this area of Mexico anytime soon?  What do you think?
