What’s Going On With the New COVID Test Requirements?

With the new Canadian air travel requirement of a negative PCR COVID test result 72 hrs. prior to flying back, rumor has it that it won’t be long now before the US requires the same.  In an attempt to keep the two largest travel markets continuing to vacation in Cancun and the Riviera Maya during the pandemic, the Hotel Association of Cancun has announced that it is in talks with Quintana Roo’s governor about testing procedures and facilities which will make it easier to obtain required test results, as well as provide accommodations for those travelers who test positive and cannot fly back until a negative test is obtained.

There are now more clinics/labs willing to test vacationers other than CostaMed, and many will send technicians out to resorts in order to address this new travel requirement.  Check with your resort and first see if there will be any on-site testing available before making a reservation at any participating medical clinic.

What do you think of this new travel requirement, and do you think that the US will be implementing it soon?

  1. We were supposed to be going to Secrets Playa Mujeres February 13th. We ending up cancelling yesterday and rebooking for February 2022, going to wait until Covid-19 settles down.

    • Oh no, so sorry you had to delay your trip….so many more cancellations coming because people don’t want to be stuck in Mexico for several weeks incurring extra costs if they have a positive test result.

      • Yes, the risk wasn’t worth the reward. This was going to be our 10th year in a row with a February Cancun trip.

A welcome break from New England winters.

  2. Am Resorts is kicking it up a notch:

    Extract from the AMResorts website:

    AMRESORTS® PROACTIVE SUPPORT & BEYOND

AMResorts® is proud to expand the already comprehensive CleanComplete Verification™ program and introduce CleanComplete+which includes COVID-19 antigen testing on-property at no cost to guests traveling to the U.S., per CDC U.S. travel regulations beginning on January 26, 2021. On-site property testing will be administered by Hospiten across the majority of our destinations*.

Test results will be received the same day, and guests should contact the concierge at each resort upon arrival to schedule departure testing.

For guests traveling to countries that do not accept the antigen test and require PCR testing, concierges at each resort will help coordinate and facilitate testing with off-property, third-party providers which are listed here.

If a guest receives a positive test while on property that prevents departure, the cost of quarantine at the property will be covered for up to 14 days. This policy is valid for travel through March 31, 2021.
