VISITAX Prices Going Up–Some New Info…

Most vacationers who visit the Cancun/Riviera Maya areas of Mexico already know about VISITAX, or departure tax which became law in 2021.  This requires all visitors ages 4+ who stay in this area of Mexico up to 180 days to pay their departure tax prior to leaving the country to return home or go to their next travel destination.

Up to this point, the fee was $13 USD; as of Feb. 1, 2024 it is going up to $21 USD p/person.  Since I am going back to Cancun in late Feb. and returning in March, I emailed VISITAX and asked them about pre-paying in advance.  They told me it was OK for me to pre-pay this much in advance; I’m not sure how far in advance of your trip you can pre-pay, but you may want to email them in advance of Feb. 1 and give them your travel dates and see if you can still pay the old fee.  Their email address is info@visitax.us.  There is a CONTACT US form on their website where you can write your message, just click here.  They got back to me in less than 1 hr.  If you just want to go ahead and pay the fee, use this form.

I plan on paying online this weekend for my upcoming spring trip; if I encounter any problems I will let you know.  In the meantime, you may want to look at the video below from Christine Turner where I learned of the upcoming fee increase.  As always, she does a great job of informing vacationers about very relevant vacation topics as well as ideas for travel.  Thanks Christine!
