I’ve never run across this before–a well-known and respected resort brand sells a property to another chain brand and then buys it back several years later…This appears to be what happened with Grand Oasis Tulum Riviera, an all-inclusive resort located between Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort and the Bahia Principe mega-resort just north of Tulum. This resort used to be known as Grand Oasis Tulum (owned by Oasis Hotels and Resorts), then became an AMR Collection resort called Sunscape Akumal (AMR resorts include Secrets, Dreams, etc., Sunscape is a cheaper family-friendly option in comparison to Dreams resorts). Apparently Hyatt has sold it back to Oasis. Hmmm…if anyone knows the inner workings of this transaction please let us all know.
Grand Oasis Tulum Riviera is a 4 star family-friendly beachfront all-inclusive resort. The beach is not that great, but snorkelers may enjoy it more due to the rocky ocean floor patches which may attract fish–bring your water shoes. Here are some highlights of the property:
- It’s a smaller property with 206 guest rooms. There are only 3 types of guest rooms so that makes the choice easy for booking.
- 2 pools, plus several smaller rooftop plunge pools
- 6 restaurants and 6 bars, plus overnight snack bar provided
- spa and gym
- tennis courts
When this resort was Sunscape it offered an adults-only section, but that no longer seems to be the case now that it’s an Oasis property.
Oasis has introduced a program called Grand Oasis Runaway which gives guests of this resort a chance to also stay at Grand Oasis Cancun (located in the Hotel Zone), and guests of Grand Oasis Cancun to stay at this resort. The exchange program doesn’t have to be booked separately, but you need to contact the concierge when you arrive and tell him/her that you want to also stay at the exchange resort. This program is based on availability and appears to be time limited, so don’t hesitate to take advantage of this offer.
Below is a video done by Viajare Official which nicely summarizes what this resort offers its guests. What do you think? Would you stay here?
