Finally got official word that Secrets Silversands will open as Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun sometime in 2021. There is no specific date set yet, however. I double checked the old SS address with the new Hyatt address and they are both the same, so there’s no doubt this is the replacement.
Check out the link above to see some computer generated pics as well as some initial info on what it will be like. Sounds like there will be some sort of water park (it’s now family-friendly) with 17 restaurants and bars.
What do you think? Will you go now that the old SS is a Hyatt property? Will the change from adults-only to family-friendly be a deal breaker for you?
Changing from adults only to family friendly is deffinatly a deal breaker for us. Unfortunately we will not be returning there. We were going to Secrets Silversands since it opened. I am assuming the property was sold. We will be looking for another Secrets in the future.
Ernie: I’ve heard similar comments from others on social media, they are really bummed about it turning family-friendly. Have you ever tried Secrets Akumal? I was there when it first opened and it was VERY nice, the beach is outstanding too.
I was looking and it looks like there is a new Secrets being built in Riviera Maya and will open sometime this year. Probably will be giving that a hard look. Deffinatly a front runner for now.
Isn’t Secrets Akumal a hi rise property? It doesn’t seem to be spread out over a large area the way SSS was.
I confused Secrets Akumal and Secets The Vine. Akumal looks very nice.
It is, I really enjoyed my stay there. The swim-up pool is even heated.
Yes, I read about the brand new build, Secrets Playa del Carmen I believe it’s called. It looks really nice, can’t wait until I can stay there.
Glad to see the original building being used, we have so many happy memories there.
Unfortunately, we prefer adults only when we vacation in Mexico. My wife works in elementary schools and vacation for her is being away from the kids.
So glad it’s being refurbished, sad that we will never be going back.
Jay: Plenty of people on the same page you are regarding this issue…
Personally, we travel “adults only” so this will not be on our list of possible. Of course we do not have under 21 yr old children
Maybe check out the new Secrets Playa del Carmen when it opens?
