The fully renovated Royal Uno, which used to be the Royal Caribbean, is supposed to open tomorrow on June 28, 2022. If I’m not mistaken I believe the resort is near the Omni Cancun and the Cancun museum in the southern part of the Hotel Zone.
The resort will offer 540 rooms and suites, two pools, a kid’s pool with a small water park, a rooftop bar, a spa which is supposed to be kid-friendly, a 24-hr. gym, a family room for video gaming and movies, a buffet and three a la carte restaurants, four bars and a coffee shop. Potential guests should note that on the resort website the Asian and Italian a la cartes are listed as opening “late summer 2022”. I don’t think the end of June is late summer. That leaves the buffet, Mexican a la carte, the poolside snack shack, the sports bar menu, the Spanish tapas bites at the rooftop bar, and hopefully room service for eating opportunities if the two a la cartes are not finished as of opening day.
I looked at the room category options and priced the Uno Beachfront Suite With Plunge Pool for fall 2022. Interesting price points for the same room with the same dates–there is the regular all-inclusive discounted rate (which is discounted from $870 USD to $740 USD p/night, it’s the same price for one or two adults), and then there’s the 25% off all-inclusive discounted rate which includes private transfer to the resort plus $500 in discount coupons (the room is discounted from $870 USD to $653 USD p/night for one or two adults). It’s kind of a no brainer which one to book; I looked at the fine print on the website and there was no mention of any requirement to attend a breakfast and presentation (“vacation club”/timeshare) in order to get the bigger discount. Those things can literally take away 2-4+ hrs. from your vacation time.
Somewhat pricey, hmm? I also don’t like the idea of financially punishing single travelers by charging them the same amount as two adults. While it looks promising, I’d have to give this one a hard think to justify spending that kind of money while I’m vacationing with children. Don’t get me wrong, I love kids and have two adult children of my own that I took on many vacations when they were children, but if I’m going to spend that kind of money I’d rather be in a luxury resort without kid’s screaming, splashing and running around poolside, or occupying all the swim-up bar stools. For families with younger children, it looks like it could be a very nice stay.
Let’s see if the opening happens tomorrow…Who’s planning on going?
