Riu Opening Two New Resorts in 2022

Ready for more new all-inclusive resorts?  Riu is planning on opening two adults-only resorts later on this year.  Here’s the scoop:

Hotel Riu Latino   projected opening Oct. 2022

  • Back in April when I was taking the shuttle from Haven Riviera Cancun to Planet Hollywood Cancun Adult Scene in Costa Mujeres, we drove past a building shell located halfway between Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres and Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres.  The shuttle driver didn’t know what resort that was going to become, but it looks like that might be the location of this new Riu property based on Google Maps listings.
  • adults only resort (age 18+) with 550 rooms
  • beachfront location
  • has its own on-site water park
  • the website states five pools–I count three beachfront pools, the water park “pool” area, and a section of swim-up rooms’ pool
  • similar Riu restaurant choices–the main buffet and four a la cartes (Asian, Italian, steakhouse, and Kulunarium which serves international gourmet dishes).  No Mexican a la carte.  Also offers a poolside grill.
  • two swim-up bars, sports bar, lobby bar, poolside bar, and lounge bar with terrace
  • spa and gym
  • on-site disco

Hotel Riu Palace Kukulkan   projected opening Nov. 2022

  • this resort is located on the south side of Live Aqua Beach Resort Cancun in the Hotel Zone.  I’ve always wondered what would finally be in that lot that stood vacant for so many years.
  • adults only resort (age 18+) with 428 guest rooms.  No swim-ups here.
  • beachfront location
  • looks like it has four beachfront pools with only one having a swim-up bar
  • Riu restaurants include the main buffet and five a la cartes (Asian, Italian, steakhouse, Mexican, and Krystal which serves international gourmet dishes).  Also offers a poolside grill.
  • patisserie and ice cream; if it’s common to other Riu resorts it’s typically in the lobby area or by the lobby
  • spa and gym

There you have it.  As to whether or not they will open close to their projected dates depends on various factors, the most important one being what the upcoming hurricane season will be like this summer.  Weather projections have listed a possibility of a higher number of tropical storms and hurricanes (hurricane season here is June through the end of Nov. with most storms and hurricanes occurring Sept. and Oct.).

Well, will you or won’t you?  I’d love to go see them this fall or winter; Riu is a solid 4* resort brand with lots of great amenities and “bang for your buck” when it comes to vacation dollars spent.
