No More Tourist Card Needed At The Cancun Airport?

There is a pilot program currently underway which involves getting rid of the infamous “Tourist Card/Visa” which vacationers from outside of Mexico have had to present to Immigration when you get off the plane at the Cancun airport.  Well, from what I understand it involves those who currently reside in Mexico, temporarily or otherwise, but I’m primarily interested in what tourists need to enter/exit Mexico.

For those of you who have already gone to Mexico for a vacation, you remember the long, rectangular form in green and white which asks where you are staying and for how long, your airline reservation information, and exactly when you are leaving Mexico?  You kept the bottom part and Immigration kept the top part.  That’s the form I’m talking about.  Here’s a video from a much respected person who is an expat now residing in Mexico in Quintana Roo.  He and his wife do a great job in giving info for those who are thinking of moving to Mexico, if anyone is interested.  The beginning of this video concerns tourist info while the latter half concerns temporary or permanent residents and the FMM form (the official term for this document is “Forma Migratoria Multiple”).
