It’s Friday again and time for a new room category review! This time I’m highlighting the Private Pool Casita Suite at the adults-only El Dorado Casitas Royale. This resort is located in the Riviera Maya about 25 min. south of the Cancun airport. The resort is directly adjacent to its sister resorts, El Dorado Royale to the south, and Generation Riviera Maya to the north, and has full access to all amenities at El Dorado Royale. While the Casitas Royale has always been a good choice for couples who are celebrating a special occasion such as a honeymoon or anniversary, single adults may also appreciate the resort’s luxurious atmosphere and extra-large suites.
The Private Pool Casita Suites are at the back of the resort in “blocks” of guest suite sections built in a horseshoe-shape around a central pool and swim-up bar area (there are five such sections). Since the suites are on the upper floor they are perfect for views of the lush resort grounds while some buildings closer to the beach have a partial or full ocean view. Since the resort itself is not huge, you will be relatively close to the beach no matter where your suite is located.
I like this suite category for the following reasons:
- you have your own private plunge pool located right off the balcony. Anytime you want to cool off just step in.
- each suite has a private outdoor shower as well as an indoor shower. The resort calls them the “Aguas del Amor” open-air showers.
- each suite also has a Jacuzzi tub. I’ve never seen any one suite have as many options for cleanliness (or romance).
- there’s a day bed on the balcony perfect for naps or reading. Use the diaphanous netting for semi-privacy and to block out some of the light–with the breeze coming in right off the ocean it will totally relax you.
- take advantage of the small balcony table when you order complimentary room service, an enjoyable and private way to have a meal together or just enjoy the resort view if traveling solo.
- high ceilings give the impression the suite is much larger than its actual square footage (which is 836 sq. feet).
I do believe that the suite’s primary downfall is a lack of balcony privacy–if you want to sell romance you’ve got to also offer privacy. The placement of the building “blocks” allows all upper floor guests to observe guests on their balconies. However, the resort has not appeared to suffer in any way for its design, so if you keep this factor in mind you may find this room category to be perfect in so many ways.
