I never hear or read much about this all-inclusive resort–maybe I’m not looking in the right places. Sensira Resort and Spa opened without a lot of fanfare or social media coverage in 2021 and has slowly built a fan base with its many amenities. Trip Advisor ratings are mostly good with an average score of 4.7 out of 5–in TA terms, that equates to an “excellent rating”.
Now that everything at the resort is supposed to be finished (when it opened there were still quite a few amenities which were not yet completed), here is a short list of the resort’s attractions which vacationers seem to appreciate:
- close location to the Cancun airport. It’s only about a 20-min. drive south which makes it easier to start your vacation sooner once you land at the airport.
- many Riviera Maya resorts are much large than those in Cancun’s Hotel Zone–you can easily find mega-resorts with thousands of rooms and hundreds of acres of mangrove forest; however, Sensira has only 359 rooms which makes this resort easy to navigate. No relying on intra-resort shuttles or getting lost (I have done that at larger resorts the first couple of days of my stay, and it’s no fun especially if it happens at night).
- many rooms have ocean or pool views. There are all kinds of suites for adults as well as families; I have read that the Amber upgraded rooms which offer butler service are worth the extra cost–your butler can make dinner reservations and get better dining times, and for some vacationers that in itself can be worth the additional money spent.
- 5 pools including an adults-only pool that also has a separate heated Jacuzzi, a kids splash park with some smaller water slides, and an infinity pool. FYI: I read on one review that the swim-up bar was closed ??, so you may want to ask prior to booking if this amenity is open.
- 8 restaurants and 24-hr. room service. The resort also offers a 10 course specialty dining experience, but this must be booked several months in advance since it only has one limited seating at 7:30 p.m. The steakhouse has a device for bull riding, but vacationers may want to ride prior to eating…just sayin.
- 6 bars including the Knight’s Pub which is supposed to be a replica of an English pub. I know nothing of traditional English pubs, but this one looks very comfy with its padded leather seats, large wall of windows, and tables which can be used for card playing. There is also a pool table inside the pub; this is an adults-only space. Also, Serendipity is a bar area for the whole family with its large screens showing sporting events and music videos–a perfect meeting place for families in the evening.
- On-site activities include climbing walls, trampoline area, short zipline across the pool areas (you need closed toe shoes to enjoy this amenity), mini-golf, basketball court, tennis court, small movie theater, and gaming areas for both teens and adults. Also, there is a theater which shows nightly entertainment. There is supposed to be a disco, but I haven’t read much about it, so I wonder if it’s open??
- Kid’s and Teen Clubs open from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
- spa nd gym on-site.
The only two consistent negatives I’ve read about have been the beach and bathroom privacy in guest rooms. The resort is located by Puerto Morelos, and anyone who knows about Riviera Maya beaches knows that Puerto Morelos area beaches are not stellar. Most bathrooms at this resort are open concept, which means that you either feel comfortable around your vacation party, or you get creative. I read one review where the dad of one family bought a couple of denser shower curtains, some duct tape, and made a temporary privacy curtain for the bathroom area. Anyone else have ideas on how to solve this kind of problem?
Here’s a video done by Lucy Gallagher; she does very thorough resort property walking tours and this one takes the viewer to many of the resort’s offerings I’ve just mentioned.
What do you think? Would you book this resort?
