Don’t Forget the New Tourist Tax…

Tomorrow, April 1, 2021, a new tourist tax will be implemented for international tourists who visit Cancun.  The tax amount is $224 Mexican Pesos which is approximately $11 USD; the new tax must be paid for each foreign/international visitor over age 15 (Brazil and some other select countries will pay less).  This new tax can be paid before you leave, while you are vacationing in Cancun, or paid in cash at various Cancun airport terminals before you fly home.

If you choose to pay prior to your departure at the Cancun airport, you can do so at the website responsible for handling this matter (Visitax).  The website’s address is http://visitax.gob.mx.  You will need the following information to pay via Visitax:

  • number of vacationers in your party
  • name, age, and passport number for each person
  • departure date
  • payment information

After providing this information, you are supposed to be able to print out a payment receipt for each traveler in your party since you will need that document before you board your return flight.

Don’t forget your other travel documents needed when you fly home–proof of a negative COVID test 72-hrs prior to your return flight, as well as the completed health questionnaire.  (There are multiple signs in the airport with the QR code to the health questionnaire, all you have to do is turn on your phone camera, point it at the QR code posted which will give you the document, and answer the questions on the document. You will show this to an airport employee prior to going through security).

See you in Cancun!
