Barcelo Maya Grand Resort Openings and Other Resort Tidbits…

I just read that Barcelo has decided to reopen some of their other resorts in their mega-resort complex, Barcelo Maya Grand Resort.  While the adults-only Maya Riviera and the family-friendly Palace sections have been open for awhile, the resort recently reopened the Colonial section.  The Tropical section is set to reopen this Friday, May 7, while the Caribe section is looking to reopen in June (no set date yet, I imagine the resort wants to see what the demand will be with the opened resorts).  No word yet on when the Beach section will reopen, however.  This is a great mega-resort, I have been there twice and stayed at the Caribe in a swim-up then moved over to the Palace on one vacation; the other I stayed at the new adults-only section.  Don’t hesitate to book the resort, you can snorkel with sea turtles over at the Palace during the morning and snooze in a poolside or beach lounger in the afternoon.

A couple of other pieces of reopening info–all the restaurants at Catalonia Royal Tulum have reportedly reopened but not the smoothie bar nor the burlesque theater.  I can understand the show theater not reopening yet, especially with the return to orange light COVID rules, but the smoothie bar is outdoors, so what’s the holdup, lol? I guess I will find out if I decide to follow through with my July trip since that’s the first resort I will be visiting.

If anyone is looking for a relative bargain on a 5-star property, TRS Yucatan is having a pretty good deal right now.  By being a Palladium Rewards member (a no-cost loyalty rewards program) and using their current online discounts, I was able to book a private plunge pool Jr. Suite for a great price.  I think I saved over $400 USD by using online discounts and loyalty rewards discounts for booking both resorts on their respective websites.

Have fun traveling, and see you in Cancun!!

  1. You mentioned a transportation service that you liked from the Cancun airport to this hotel can you provide the name?

    • I have been taking USA Transfers for years, they’ve only been late once and that was by 2 minutes. Also, Canada Transfers has a great reputation, and I have used Friends Travel Cancun as a private driver while I visited cenotes, but they also take people to/from the airport. Hope this helps. Please be aware that there is a bogus USA Transfers out here, slightly different wording. This is the correct one. https://www.usa-transfers.com/
