I find the actual “travel” part of a vacation to be the most stressful of the entire ordeal. I’m assuming I’m not alone in this respect…while I spend months eagerly anticipating my destination I detest airports, everything about airports is abhorrent to me. I’m not afraid to fly or to travel, but I even think about an airport and I’m in need of an extra spray of Arrid Extra Dry.
Well, it happened again. Another experience to reinforce my abhorrence about flying and airports. Suddenly I get a text from Southwest letting me know that Houston is going to experience a winter storm with ice this next week, and knowing Southwest like I do I am already anticipating I will either be stranded at Houston airport on my way to Cancun, or not even being able to leave San Diego airport. This necessitated some serious thinking about travel options and I decided to book a one-way flight segment with Delta that was refundable from SD to Cancun. Ughhh. I haven’t been on a vacation since March 2024 and I DESPERATELY need it, even some of my therapy clients are saying, “You’re getting kind of testy Dr. Tess, what’s going on”…Embarrassing, really. Since I tend to see clients with more serious psychiatric problems my empathy deteriorates slowly over time and if I don’t take a break I don’t do my job effectively.
If I make it to my Cancun destination this next week, don’t forget to follow my travels on Instagram (allinclusivegal account). I will be starting with Riu Caribe for some Riu theme party fun at a renovated Riu resort, them moving on to a luxury family-friendly resort called SLS Playa Mujeres. I can’t wait to see the “monkey bar”, plus resort reviews are actually pretty good for a resort that just opened 6 weeks ago. It’s supposed to have a heated adults-only pool and some great amenities like fantastic gym classes in their open-air venue plus pool aerobics. Look for me in the pool aerobics class…I love those when I am staying at an all-inclusive resort.
See you in Cancun? (Maybe).
