Tulum Airport Now Open To International Flights…

Now vacationers to the Riviera Maya in particular have another option to shorten their transportation time to their resort once they land in Mexico…the Tulum airport is now officially open to international flights and that includes those coming from the US.

Typically, even those wanting to vacation deep in the Riviera Maya still had to fly into Cancun, but that meant over an hour’s shuttle/taxi/bus ride to one’s destination.  I don’t know about you, but I have better things to do than endure over an hour in a shuttle just to be able to begin my vacation at the resort of my choice.  For example, if you wanted to stay at Dreams Tulum and enjoy all the great things to see and do nearer Tulum your only option was to take the 90+ minute ride from the Cancun airport to the resort…and that doesn’t even take into consideration PDC traffic (which can be pretty horrible now, it’s like rush hr. traffic in the US), or shared shuttle situations where you stop at other resorts to let out other travelers.

As of right now, the only US flights making their way to the Tulum airport are those from Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, and Miami via American Airlines and Delta.  As of March 31, more departure cities will be added including Newark/New York, Houston and Chicago via United Airlines.

How about it?  Will you be flying into the Tulum airport anytime soon from your departure city?
