I keep seeing more and more YouTube and Instagram videos out about the “Top 7-10 Best Of”, typically listing resorts in the Cancun and Riviera Maya areas of Mexico. I guess that’s not surprising to see those in my feed given most of my social media searches and views are about those very items, but after viewing some of these posts I come away with thinking they’ve got to be just random picks with no validity to them. The NYX Hotel Cancun a five-star? Please.
However, I recently found one with which I mostly agree–the Top 7 Adults-only Resorts in the Riviera Maya. Here’s what they suggested:
- Secrets Maroma
- Excellence Riviera Cancun
- Barcelo Maya Riviera
- Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya
- Secrets Akumal
- Atelier Playa Mujeres
- Haven Riviera Cancun
I’ve stayed at many of these properties, and while they are all beautiful with their own vibe and appeal, there are some I feel were left out and deserve their own attention–perhaps there should be a separate category with the Top Luxury Adults-Only Resorts in Cancun and the Riviera Maya…First of all, Atelier Playa Mujeres is north of Cancun, not in the Riviera Maya, so that one shouldn’t even be listed in this category. So, here’s my opinion on the Top 10 Luxury All-Inclusive Resorts in both Cancun and the Riviera Maya…Let me know in the comments below if you agree or disagree or have some other property to add…
- Hotel Xcaret Arte for a larger resort, La Casa de la Playa for a smaller resort (they are both under the same parent company)
- Secrets Moxche/Secrets Impression Moxche (they both share amenities with the Impression section being an upgrade)
- Atelier Playa Mujeres
- Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya (my daughter calls this resort her “home away from home in Mexico” when she stays in the area)
- Excellence Playa Mujeres
- Haven Riviera Cancun
- Secrets Akumal
- Secrets Maroma
- Live Aqua Cancun
- Secrets Impression Isla Mujeres
To be fair, pick #10 may have to slide up a couple of numbers with its ultimate luxury amenities and stellar ocean view, but it’s too new yet to see how it will pan out compared to other resorts and their offerings.
Below is a short video highlighting the first list of the Top 7 Best Of, what do you think of either list?
