This particular Royalton resort has been open since 2015 and has gained the reputation as a great family-friendly place to vacation with a party-like atmosphere (the beach can be less than spectacular, but that is common in the Puerto Morelos area). Within lies a “resort within a resort” which is the adults-only section called the Hideaway . Both sections offer rooms that can be further upgraded which is referred to as the Diamond Club–Diamond Club offers butler service, upgraded in-room amenities, better room locations, etc. (check out the link above).
The adults-only Hideaway section offers its own check-in lounge, private pool, private bars, private beach area and beach bar, and private access to the Dorado Seafood Grill restaurant. Hideaway guests, however, do not have access to the Diamond Club private pool, beach section, and beach bar unless they have upgraded.
Hideaway room types can be rather difficult to ascertain since rooms like swim-ups can be booked only in the Luxury Jr. Suite category (there is no separate swim-up room category). Look carefully on the website for what you want. Royalton is one of the few resorts which offers online room selection–just enter your reservation details and for only $60 you can book the exact room number you’d like in the resort section you like (ocean and pool view rooms may be subject to higher fees since most guests want one).
Check out this video of a typical swim-up suite. FYI: Swim-ups with a king bed have the tub hidden away, whereas swim-ups with double beds have the tub in the middle of the bathroom area.
What do you think, would you stay here?
We didn’t like this resort. Swim up room was in the shade by early afternoon and there was mo view of the ocean. They built a restaurant in front of the ocean. It was a very long walk to the main area. There are better resorts out there.
Thank you for your first hand feedback. While I personally love swim-ups, they traditionally don’t have very good views. The only exception I’ve found is at either Now Sapphire, or the Melody resort in the Hotel Zone.
Yes, definitely one of the “cons” about a swim-up. I wish resorts could make it easier to move about too.
