Attention Riu resort lovers!  Some significant changes are coming to several Riu resorts in the Riviera Maya…

First of all, Riu Palace Mexico is currently closed for a thorough renovation–it will reopen Sept. 5, 2026 as an adults-only resort.  I think they may be trying to wiggle their way more into the couples/honeymoon/anniversary and special occasion market which is actually gaining a lot of popularity in terms of all-inclusive choices.  There’s potentially lots of $ to be made in this all-inclusive niche.

Secondly, Riu Yucatan will be closing for complete renovations April 4, 2027, and will be reopening Aug. 4, 2027.  I wonder if the spider monkeys that like to hang out by the wooden bridge in the mornings will be more or less likely to show up with only construction workers and their noise?  We shall see when the resort reopens whether they have been scared away or show up with even more regularity…
