There’s an awesome Secrets resort coming to the increasingly popular Costa Mujeres area north of downtown Cancun.  While Secrets Playa Blanca had been scheduled to open Dec. 1, 2023, it has now been rescheduled to open Feb. 1, 2024.  When I talked with a Secrets booking agent a couple of weeks ago who notified me of the cancellation of my Dec. reservation, he admitted that while Feb. is a tentative date of opening, that is not guaranteed either.

If you look at the resort website, it clearly states that while the resort is scheduled to open in Feb, 2024, several major resort amenities will not be ready until June 2024.  Those amenities include the spa, gym, and theater.  Some wholesalers are listing the availability of those amenities as May 2024, but that does not align with what the resort website is now saying.

Would I book this resort for Feb. 2024? I’m going back to Cancun in late Feb. 2024 and I seriously thought about it, but from my perspective it’s still too risky.  I already dealt with multiple cancellations and new opening dates when I was trying to stay at the new Dreams Natura, and that was not pleasant so I don’t want to repeat the experience.  I would suggest that waiting to stay there is the best option in this case; if you want to experience those major resort amenities that won’t open until June, then booking for mid to end of July 2024 would be a safer bet.  If you don’t mind about those amenities not being available, then think about booking for late April/early May just to be safe.
