This adults-only resort is located in the Playa Mujeres area north of downtown Cancun. It’s within easy walking distance to its family-friendly sister resort, Dreams Playa Mujeres. One great aspect about this Secrets resort is that all guests have access to the adjacent Dreams resort–only upgraded Preferred Club guests have access to Dreams’ lazy river, however. Otherwise, Secrets’ guests can use all other Dreams’ facilities including the pools, bars, restaurants, even the water slides. (The easiest way to get over to the Dreams resort located to the south of Secrets is to take the beachfront path).
I stayed at the Dreams resort in 2017 and spent a leisurely afternoon at this Secrets resort swimming, participating in water aerobics, eating the delicious poolside BBQ lunch, and checking out the facilities. SPM is basically divided into two sections–the beachfront section with the pools, a few restaurants, and guest rooms, and the inland section with the lobby, lion’s share of the restaurants, gym, spa, and tennis courts. While guests can walk back and forth between these sections, there are chauffeured golf carts available to transport those who don’t wish to walk.
The beachfront area at this Secrets has been left pretty much intact with natural flora; walkways have been added, but areas of brush must be traversed to get from the edge of the resort to the beach loungers and ocean entry. While a great idea for those who don’t wan’t to see complete environmental devastation as a result of resort construction, it does block the view of the ocean from ground floor accommodations like the Oceanfront Master Suites. If you can live with that, great, if not, there are other suite categories which provide wonderful ocean views.
I’ve chosen to focus on the Oceanfront Master Suite with its own private pool. These suites provide a separate bedroom with its own large bathroom including a Jacuzzi tub, a walk-in closet, large living room area (which can be closed off from the bedroom), bar area with two chairs, and as the suite title suggests, its own private beachfront pool. Each of these suites has its own gated access to the beach which makes it incredibly easy to grab your sunglasses and flip flops and walk right onto the sand.
Below is a video highlighting this suite category. There are a couple of factual errors stated by the videographer–technically this is NOT a swim-out room, and Secrets resorts only give upgraded guests small airplane-sized bottles of liquor which can be replaced daily which means you cannot automatically get regular-sized bottles of liquor or request certain types of liquor to replace others (that nice amenity belongs to Excellence resorts).
Take a look at the video and tell me what you think–would you stay here?
