Sea Turtles Becoming Endangered?

I read an interesting National Geographic article which discussed the potential fate of sea turtles due to climate change.  In the article, NG sites a dramatic rise in female sea turtle populations around the world including the Caribbean, San Diego, and Australia.  Since sand heat ultimately determines sea turtle gender, many sea turtles are being born female due to rising world temperatures (sand gets hotter, more female turtles are born).

Since the Riviera Maya’s “must things to do” list includes a trip to Akumal to snorkel with the turtles, it would be extremely sad and regrettable to think that the future may hold few/zero sea turtles to observe in their natural habitat in this area, not to mention around the world.

Have you heard about this topic?  What do you think?
