Rooftop Suite Series–Royalton Riviera Cancun

FYI:  Just a couple of property details to be aware of at this Royalton–it has three sections, the family-friendly Royalton Riviera Cancun section, the adults-only section called Hideaway, and the ability to upgrade in both sections along with its own amenities including rooms called Diamond.

This was a tough post to write, primarily because of the conflicting information out there on whether or not specific room categories offer a rooftop terrace area at Royalton Riviera Cancun.  Since I am not a travel agent, I don’t have the “in” on whether or not a certain resort offers a specific amenity I haven’t experienced myself, so I am like everyone else gleaning information from whatever resources are out there.  So, let me make a definitive statement about rooftop terrace suites at this Royalton resort as a non-travel agent:  if you have your heart set on a rooftop terrace at the Royalton Riviera Cancun for your vacation, use a travel agent with this vacation booking.

Let me share what I do know about being able to self-book this type of room category at this resort.  It’s practically impossible to do so.  If anyone out there knows an easy way without using a travel agent, please let us all know.  I’ve attempted dummy website bookings for various room categories and dates to see if a rooftop terrace option popped up, no luck.  I’ve looked at various wholesalers for the same, no specific mention in the room categories of rooftop terrace suite options.

I do know that the resort website only lists ONE room category with a rooftop terrace option, and that’s the Luxury Presidential One Bedroom Suite.  Since there are rooftop terrace room videos out there in different categories (Hideaway Riviera Cancun Luxury Jr. Suite with Terrace Jacuzzi, for example–Room 2425 is supposed to have a rooftop terrace), I’m not sure why the resort website doesn’t mention that in other appropriate categories.  When doing a dummy booking on  the resort website, numerous stay dates show no rooftop terrace options for the Luxury Presidential One Bedroom Suite.  I may be incorrect, but my guess is that this room category is so hard to find and book because the resort may be saving them for “vacation club”/ timeshare owners–best room categories are often given first to timeshare owners.

There is another way to self-book this accommodation, but unless you are familiar with the resort and where on the property this type of room is located (or you are looking for a specific room number), I would still use a travel agent.  Royalton resorts is a member of the Autograph Collection which means for an additional $60 you can book a specific room once you’ve made your original online booking.  So, if you already know the room number you’d like to stay in, you can take a chance and book your travel dates and type of accommodation online, then click on the section which will allow you to search for the room number you have in mind.  Like I said, it would be safer to use a travel agent.

In case you are still interested in this room amenity, here’s a video to show what the room and rooftop terrace area are like.  (In case anyone is interested, this video shows a Diamond Club upgrade of a One Bedroom Presidential Suite with an Ocean View, Room 6406).  Royalton guest rooms in general tend to be very nice and luxurious looking–this resort is no different.  What do you think?  Do you have an easier way to book this room category?

  1. The Luxury Presidential One Bedroom Suite with a Rooftop pool was available on my Capital One Travel website. We got lucky. It wasn’t even an option on the resorts website.
