If you are looking to stay at a resort in Cancun’s Hotel Zone which offers a rooftop suite AND is located fairly close to the airport (about a 15-20 min. drive), check out the Coral level upgrade at the Iberostar Selection Cancun. The adults-only Coral level is a separate 13-story tower on the north side of the Iberostar Selection Cancun; it opened in 2018 and offers 156 guest rooms of its own, three additional bars, one additional restaurant, a private pool with swim-up bar, and a private beach area just for Coral level guests. Rooftop suites can only be found at this resort in the Coral level upgrade.
There are two room categories with a rooftop terrace–the Jr. Suite Rooftop Oceanfront, and the Jr. Suite Oceanfront Corner Rooftop. Both offer in-room basics plus a seating area, private bathroom, and rooftop terrace with sofa seating, full loungers, an outdoor shower, plus a small plunge pool with excellent views. Here are the main differences between the rooftop suite room categories:
- sq. footage–the Jr. Suite Rooftop Oceanfront has 686 sq. feet, while the corner rooftop suite has 1,109 sq. feet of space.
- outdoor space–if you want more outdoor space to enjoy the beautiful turquoise waters for which Cancun is known, book the corner rooftop suite. It has a wraparound balcony plus clear plexiglass panels on the rooftop area to better enjoy panoramic views of the ocean and Hotel Zone.
- the corner rooftop suite has a larger bathroom complete with a soaker tub instead of shower-only.
- the corner rooftop suite has an entryway area with large drawers and space for your luggage.
- the corner rooftop suite has a small area for dining.
- the corner rooftop suite’s bed is closer to the balcony so you can get ocean views from there as well.
I was impressed with the level of privacy offered by both rooftop suite terraces. While there is no overhead shade structure which may limit rooftop terrace daytime use, you can get almost total privacy up there. Be aware that the rooftop terrace in both room categories can only be accessed via an exterior circular stairway.
Here are a couple of videos, the first highlights the Jr. Suite Rooftop Oceanfront room, while the second shows what is available at the upgraded Coral level.
What do you think? Would you stay in either of these room categories?
