Here’s another rooftop suite in my series of highlighting this room category. This time it’s the Two-Story Rooftop Terrace Suite at another resort in the Excellence Collection–Excellence Riviera Cancun located in the Puerto Morelos area. This property is older than the other Excellence resorts with an opening date which occurred in 2004. You can tell it’s an older property with its sunken living room area in its suites and general architecture; if you like a property which looks more like “elegant, luxury Mexico Colonial design” rather than more modern and trendy, then this resort may be the one for you.
The resort has 440 guest suites (all rooms are suites), multiple pools, restaurants, beach beds, a spa you can enter by swimming in from the lazy river, along with the signature Excellence resort lobby bar which one must descend to from the main check-in area. The lobby bar is one of my favorite parts about many of the Excellence Collection resorts with its “ta-da” moment (if you’ve ever been to one of their resorts you know what I mean). The most basic suite starts at 668 sq. feet, while the two-story rooftop suite comes in at 1,068 sq. feet. Rooftop suites can be obtained in both the non-upgraded and Club level upgraded room categories available at this resort; the main difference between the two is a pool view from further back in the property vs. an oceanfront view.
The actual rooftop area is a bit different in its layout than at the other Excellence collection properties–it still has all the bells and whistles you can expect from a rooftop suite in this resort family, but it has a different look. The rooftop terrace offers a plunge pool with waterfall feature, a place to shower, large padded daybed, table and several chairs, and a shade structure which maximizes use during daytime hours. The plunge pool offers a great deal of privacy, but it is fairly far back from the edge which means it can be easy to miss the view.
Here’s a video which shows this particular suite category; what do you think? Would you stay here? Or, have you stayed here before and if so, what did you think?
