Rooftop Suite Series–ESTUDIO Playa Mujeres Inspira Rooftop Suite

I was somewhat surprised when I found out that ESTUDIO Playa Mujeres allowed young children to stay in a rooftop suite–my children are grown but I cannot stop evaluating spaces in terms of safety issues for kids!  I guess it’s a habit I will never outgrow.  Watch the video below and judge for yourself, but in my own personal opinion I would not book this suite if I had children under 13 (I would also sleep with one eye open with young kids in this suite thinking they might want to wander up there by themselves…).  The resort website does recommend that children under the age of 12 be closely supervised when they are up in the rooftop area, but why stress yourself out on vacation when it can be avoided?

Here’s the 411 on rooftop suite details…ESTUDIO Playa Mujeres, which is a family-friendly resort, adjoins Atelier Playa Mujeres, an age 16+ resort.  You can easily walk from one lobby to another.  ESTUDIO has their own amenities including pools and restaurants which families can use.  Rooftop terrace suites at ESTUDIO are almost identical to the rooftop suites at Atelier:

  • rooftop terrace suites are all INSPIRA upgrade suites.  That means guests staying in this room category have access to INSPIRA amenities (the exception would be children having daytime access to the 5th floor pool at Atelier unless they are age 16+).
  • same circular staircase leading up to the rooftop terrace.
  • same rooftop terrace layout–large daybed with overhead shade structure, small plunge pool which is more like an unheated Jacuzzi, two padded full loungers, table and chairs, shower, and half-bathroom.
  • there are plexiglass panels at the terrace edge, but as you can see from the video below they are not high enough to prevent younger children from potential disaster.

Check out the resort video–the videographer shows other resort areas as well as the basics of the rooftop terrace area.  From what I know about the room layout itself, it offers a king bed, sofa bed, and large bathroom which can be made private with the use of sliding barn doors.  I stayed on the Atelier side in 2020 and walked over to visit the ESTUDIO side to see what they had to offer.  If you have kids and want a luxury resort experience, I wouldn’t hesitate to book ESTUDIO.  What do you think?  Would you stay here and in this room category?
