Paradisus Playa Mujeres Out, SLS Playa Mujeres In…

I’ve been wondering for several years what was to become of Paradisus Playa Mujeres.  I parasailed over it, read about it, saw pics and videos about it, but it never seemed to officially open.  While I don’t know exactly what happened behind the scenes, it looks like Meliá has sold this property (it is no longer advertised as a Meliá property on their website), and instead this resort will open Nov. 15, 2024, as SLS Playa Mujeres.

This will be the very first all-inclusive property for the SLS brand. (There is SLS Cancun which already exists in this part of Mexico but that one is not all-inclusive).  The resort will be added to Ennismore’s All-Inclusive Collection and will include the following amenities:

  • 498 guest rooms and suites.  There are supposed to be 16 guest room categories in total, but I counted 18 which includes non-upgraded rooms, suites as a separate category, and SLS Elite rooms as another separate room category.  My understanding from reading their website is that Elite upgraded rooms are divided into two categories–regular Elite and Exclusive Elite rooms.  Something new, an upgrade within an upgrade, sounds interesting.
  • 18 restaurants and bars
  • 4 pools
  • beach area
  • private marina
  • spa and gym
  • events center
  • Kid’s Club (the resort doesn’t list the age range though) plus a teen’s room.  The activities for the Kid’s Club sound interesting–building sand castles with Mayan pyramid planning, learning how to be a DJ–definitely something different.  Some write-ups claim the Kid’s Club will be accepting toddlers, but nothing official yet.
  • indoor/outdoor cinemas

The website states that kids under the age of 12 are free if you book through Sept. 30, 2024.  That only leaves a couple of days to save some $!

So, what do you think?  Would you stay here now that this resort will be opening?
