Outstanding Swim-Up Suites–Dreams Sapphire Beachfront Swim-Ups

Looking for a swim-up suite which is right on the beach? This is a very rare resort amenity, so there aren’t many to choose from.  Stop searching, because there is an all-inclusive family-friendly resort which fits the bill.

Dreams Sapphire Resort and Spa (recently changing its name from NOW Sapphire) is located north of Puerto Morelos in the Riviera Maya.  This resort spent a lot of money on renovations which helped justify the name change, and, along with it, a price point change.  Among the renovations were the addition of heated swim-up suites situated beachfront with easy access to the resort’s beach bar (this beach bar is right on the sand with swings for seats, a very cool place to hang out and have a drink) and main pool which is also located beachfront.  My understanding is that children under the age of 12 can stay in this suite category as long as parents sign a release to do so.

The resort’s swim-up suites can only be found under the upgraded Preferred Club accommodations section; there is a Jr. Suite and Master Suite category available as a “swim-out” (there is no significant difference between a swim-up and a swim-out room category–I’ve stayed in enough suites in this room category at various resorts and have found that resorts in this area of Mexico are more likely to label this room category as a “swim-out”–even swim-ups which require several steps from one’s terrace to the designated pool are not named differently because of this factor).  If you are going to splurge for a swim-up, might as well book the Master Suite category–while you get more overall sq. footage, the additional terrace area alone is worth the upgrade.  The terrace for a Master suite includes two full loungers, a table and two chairs, a separate seating area, a hammock, plus generous shelving for stepping down into the pool.  The Master Suite also has a separate living room including a dining table and four chairs, another full bathroom which includes a second shower, and a HUGE Master shower.

I stayed at this resort in Feb. 2020 (unbelievably I have not yet posted a review and probably at this point will not post it since so many renovations were completed after my initial stay) and have to disclose some things about the resort which might be important in deciding on whether or not to stay here.  First of all, if I were going to return to this resort I would only book the PC Master Suite Swim-Out; my renovated PC room had poor shower drainage due to its design so I had to deal with bathroom flooding multiple times a day.  Shower drainage in the Master Suite looks great and unlike what was provided in lesser room categories.  Secondly, the beach is only pristine here for short periods of time given its location near Puerto Morelos.  Thirdly, unless it has undergone major renovations, the buffet here has got to be the smallest and most limited buffet of any resort I’ve ever been to anywhere.  A la carte restaurants routinely took 60-90 min. to be seated (I ultimately decided to dine super early in order to avoid such wait times).  Preferred Club amenities were never routinely replaced in my room, and lastly, the Preferred Club Lounge looked like it stepped out of a 70’s dark basement  (I certainly hope this area was renovated).  This sounds super negative and like I hated my resort stay, well, I guess I did if I haven’t even posted a resort review in two years, but I have to admit I did appreciate the quiet adults-only pool and newly opened waterslides.  Oh yes, and the beach bar right on the sand with its ocean views was my favorite go-to place during my stay.

I’m willing to give this resort another try given the highly desirable heated beachfront swim-out room categories; would you be willing to stay in this suite category?
