Secrets Maroma has been a favorite adults-only resort in the Riviera Maya since it opened in 2008. Popular with honeymooners and those celebrating anniversaries, the resort is located on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (voted as “Worlds Best Beach” for four consecutive years by the Travel Channel). The beach is exquisite with its white sand and azur-colored ocean water, calm waves for swimming, and underdeveloped surrounding area–there are only a handful of resorts (some are not all-inclusive) gracing lovely Punta Maroma.
The resort has 412 guest rooms, six a la carte restaurants (plus a buffet), a grill and cafe, and six bars–seven if you count the upgraded Preferred Club Lounge bar. The resort has two pools (well, it’s actually more like one pool divided into two sections), both of which are heated, a 13,000 sq. foot spa, non-motorized water sports, theme nights, a pool foam party (I think it’s still on Tuesdays), and occasional “movies under the stars”. I’ve always appreciated AMResorts’ no wristband and no dinner reservation policies, those are amenities that help attract and keep vacationers loyal to a resort brand.
The rooms have all been renovated so expect more contemporary furnishings. Typical for me, I thoroughly checked out the swim-up suite options and was disappointed that oceanfront swim-ups are now available only if one books the Presidential Suite at over $1k p/night. (Buildings PC 17 and PC 27 must have several Presidential Suites, or the company has decided to save their oceanfront swim-ups here for timeshare members because the resort map still shows swim-up pools all along these buildings). So the tropical view Preferred Club Jr. Suite Swim-Out has to suffice. The room itself is very lovely, but if a resort has oceanfront swim-ups I would be willing to pay extra to have the view, especially on this particular beach.
Here’s a video of what this room category looks like with the new renovations. What do you think? Would you stay here?
