Mahekal Beach Resort, A Fairly New Addition to the All-Inclusive Resort Market…

I didn’t follow Mahekal Beach Resort since it originally did not have an all-inclusive option.  Much to my surprise I discovered that it now offers an all-inclusive optional meal and beverage plan after reading Travel + Leisure’s listing of “World’s Best” (this resort came in at #5 in the category of top 25 resorts in Mexico).  Here’s some info on the resort and what it has to offer:

  • 196 rooms including oceanfront Penthouses, oceanfront beach houses, ocean and garden view suites with their own plunge pool, and money saving Garden View bungalows to name just a few!  Each room/suite gets two hammocks which staff set up for you on your balcony after you check-in.
  • this resort is right off of Calle 38 in Playa del Carmen (right on the beach) which means easy access to shopping, clubs, bars and restaurants if you want a more “local” experience (it’s about a 15-min. walk to Mamitas Beach Club if you want a daytime beach club experience…)
  • the resort has three pools (one is an oceanfront infinity pool with a small swim-up bar), two Jacuzzis (I believe that one is heated), three restaurants, four bars, a place to get ice cream, a well-regarded spa, a gym (I understand it offers spin classes), an art station (you can paint your own ceramic piece for an extra cost), and multiple wedding venues around the property.
  • Complimentary antigen testing with a minimum three-night stay

Here’s some of its limitations:

  • no in-room TV, you will have to rely on your device for that (there is in-room WiFi, however)
  • no in-room mini-bar
  • room service is an extra cost
  • bathrooms are smaller and not what one would expect from a resort with this price point
  • top-shelf liquors are not included unless you pay an additional $30 USD p/person p/day with the all-inclusive plan
  • it looks like the Cocina restaurant is not included in the all-inclusive plan
  • Bali beds/daybeds are an extra cost
  • extra cost for certain prime cut meats, seafood like lobster or catch of the day, bottles of wine or liquor
  • while this is a family-friendly resort, there are no dedicated children/teen spaces

What do you think?  Are you tempted to book this resort?  Have you stayed here?
